FAVORITE STORIES
. by Lou Miller celebrat-
ing 30 years with Domestic
Linen . . . Chung Foo Wong
was the perfect Chinese
houseboy in every respect
but one . . . he could not
seem to remember to knock
on the door before entering
a room . . . As a result, he
had embarrassed his comely
employer time and again by
barging into her boudoir
when she was in various
stages of undress.
She finally threatened
him with instant dismissal
if ever again he repeated
his offense . . . and a whole
month went by without one
intrusion by Chung Foo.
"See?" beamed his em-
ployer. "It's easy enough to
respect my privacy if you
only put your mind to it.
How have you remem-
bered?" . . . "Very simple,"
answered Chung Foo. "Be-
fore me come in, me look
through keyhole. If missee
no dressed, me no come in."
NEW ISRAEL BOND
director Bill Cohen, trans-
ferred here from
Pittsburgh, hardly settled
into his North Park apart-
ment in Southfield with
wife Gerrie . . . and off they
were to Kansas City to
celebrate the birth and bris
of a new grandson . . .

LOOKING BACK ON
Columns Of Yesteryears .. .
June 12, 1953 ... "Traf-
fic Court Referee John M.
Wise had an interesting ex-
perience . . . A Persian, who
is interning in Hurley Hos-
pital, Flint, Dr. Manochehr
Maoyyad, brought before
him for a traffic violation,
was given a suspended sen-
tence to give him the benefit
of the doubt . . . Asked how
he liked this country, he
said he loved it and hoped he
could remain after his two-
year entry permit expires.
"In Persia, he said, the
only recourse of appeal from
a judge would be to the king
. . . And when asked about
the other lands in the Mid-
dle East, he paid a compli-
ment to Israel which he re-
ferred to as a thriving
democracy."
Feb. 21, 1964 ... "Little
Dolores Goldman was asked
by her Sholem Aleichem
Sunday School teacher, 'If
you had a large, good apple
and a small, wormy one, and
you were told to divide it
with your brother, which
would you give him?' . . . Do-
lores answered, 'Do you
mean my big brother or my
little brother?' "

The new Haggada has a
running question-and-

Exodus story? How does
washing Our hands link us
with the Ancient Temple?

gada eliminates sexist
terms, wherever possi-
ble, and contains new
translations of Hebrew
passages; a new histori-
cal section; and fresh in-
sights and comments
