The Best of EVerything

(Continued from Page 31)
at too many places ...
deep fried after being fil-
led with Swiss cheese and
spices . .-. The sides, of
Chinese vegetables .
and brown rice were
added taste attractions
... For dessert it was a
slice of hot pecan pie with
ice cream and a good
cigar ... (yes, you cer-
tainly can smoke at
Healthy Jones restau-
rant).
Most of the food at
Healthy Jones is low in
calories . . . no MSG or
chemicals are used .. . no
salt, no white flour and no
preservatives . . . But make
no mistake . . . this is a
natural foods restaurant .. .
not a health foods restau-
rant with vegetables and
fruits making up the main
dishes . . . There is a big dif-
ference, you know . . . With
poultry and fish being
served, I wouldn't be sur-
prised at one day also seeing
natural beef at Healthy
Jones.
Healthy Jones is a full
service restaurant that
happens to specialize in
natural foods . . . which
many experts say is the real
way to eat whenever possi-
ble.
Look for Healthy Jones to
be among the first restau-
rants to have a non-
alcoholic beverage menu .. .
using takeoffs from popular
drink names . . . Non-
alcoholic drinks, by the
way, have gained tremen-
dously in popularity . . . in

some areas, overwhelm-
ingly so.
On one side of Healthy
Jones Restaurant is also
a natural foods grocery
store ... with vitamins,
natural cosmetics, dairy
... everything, even
spaghetti noodles, etc.
But the big thing is the
restaurant owned by Joan
and Dr. Donald Wittenberg.
There are very few ways
to fight a misconception .. .
People have to find out for
themselves . . . This I did
with amazingly happy re-
sults . . . Healthy Jones is a
real honest-to-goodness fine
restaurant . . . I can't think
of a single thing wrong with
eating food made from in-
gredients that are good for
you . . . especially when it's
good!
DON'T KNOW HOW
they do it, but Original Pan-
cake House on W. 10 Mile,
serves decaffeinated coffee
that tastes like the real
thing . „Never knew the
difference until waitress
Bonnie Prowant asked if we
wanted another cup of de-
caffeinated . . . which she
thought had been originally
ordered . . . Many thanks to
Bonnie for this marvelous
find.
BECAUSE OF MUCH
demand, "According to
John/Paul" at Grease Pit of
Doug's Body Shop-,- Wood-
ward, between Eight and
Nine, has added Thursdays
to its Friday and Saturday
performances . . . all 9 p.m.
. . . The musical revue fea-
tures works of former Bea-
tles John Lennon and Paul
McCartney.
NOT EVERYONE IS
hibernating in Keego Har-
bor . . . Ciro's Italian res-
taurant, Cass Lake Rd., one
mile north of Orchard Lake
Rd., is sort of a contradiction
in a community that, during
the winter, seems to almost
close down along with the A
& W and ice cream stands.
Ciro. Spigno (friends call
him Gino) and his brother,
Jerry, specialize in authen-
tic Italian food . . . Both can
be found in the restaurant
just about any day of the
week . . . cooking, cutting
up food, talking to custom-
ers, etc. . . . They came here
from Italy when Ciro was 18
and Jerry, 11 . . . Food has
been a big part of their lives
ever since.
Their mother, Delta
Spigno, who also cooks at
the family restaurant and
bakes those homemade
rolls, is proof that they came
by their love for food natur-
ally . . . people who go to
Ciro's don't mind waiting a
little while for food that is
cooked to order.
Mama
Although
Spigno is old-time au-
thentic Italian, Ciro and
Jerry both love to ex-
periment with new dis-
hes ... In fact, Jerry has
been known to leave the
table in the middle of a
conversation, go out
shopping for just the
right ingredients, con-
coct something new on
