vited to the White House?
. . . Well, you are now . . .
that is if it is the White
House Manor in Novi.
CHINESE NEW YEAR
is Jan. 25 . . . 4680
Year of The Dog.
IT'S NOTHING NOW to
see entire families eating
together at The Deli Place
in Tally Hall, Orchard Lake
Rd. and 14 Mile . . . That's
mainly because The Deli
Place and Slimmery have
sort of merged forces. . .
Folks watching their
calories eat salads or any of
Bob Benson's Slimmery
dishes . . . while the
youngsters devour any-
thing and everything in
sight that Deli owner Larry
Kravetz has to offer.
I'm not on a diet or need to
watch my caloric intake,
but wanted to taste a Slim-
mery dinner . . . The veg-
etable soup with all fresh
ingredients had 35 calories
for an eight-oz. cup . . .
then some delicious smoked
white fish salad appetizer
. . . a pizza roll had 310
calories. (I had half of one)
. . . a nacho roll so new it
wasn't on the menu yet, was
370 calories (I had half).
Then delicious deSsert of
half a baked ,apple topped
with Slimmery Frozen Des-
sert . . . (whole one was
only 175 calories).
Entire meal was only
470 calories (a Big Mac
alone is 556) . . I was fil-
led and didn't have any
bloated feeling.
Everything was so tasty
. . . not like some diet res-
taurants where people eat
just to eat . . . not necessar-
ily enjoying what they con-
sume. .
There are two fact sheets
at all tables . . . with simi-
lar items for diet conscious
and diabetics . . . Pink is
for weight watchers and
general calorie count . . .

Blue is for diabetics, who
can eat the exact same thing
and equate them with their
dietary needs.
Slimmery even puts out
its own bar-b-q sauce . . .
10 calories per ounce.
The Deli Place and Slim-
mery make a good combina-
tion . . . It combines delica-
tessen dining with diet and
diabetic-conscious cuisine
and the family doesn't
have to split up anymore.
It is defeat that turns
bone to flint, and gristle to
muscle, and makes men in-
vincible, and formed those
heroic natures that are now
in ascendency in the world.

MANY PEOPLE WHO
make wishes at Wing Hong
Tokyo Steak House on 14
Mile and Northwestern,
aren't cheap . . . They
throw quarters and half-
dollars into the waters
calmly resting beneath the
very-well laid out Japanese
eatery that connects to the
Cantonese restaurant . . .
One gent from Japan threw
in a $10 bill . . . Don't know
if he got his wish:
Wing Hong Tokyo Steak
House was designed by
George Nakashima, who
will soon give the Wing
Hong restaurant on South-
field a new interior and ex-
terior look . . . George de-
signed Mauna Loa on Grand
Blvd., Kontiki in Chicago,
Mai Kai in Ft. Lauderdale,
Kyotos, etc.
NOW THERE IS stuffed
pizza at Hickory's, North-
western and 12 Mile . . . to
go along with its three
styles of ribs (hickory,
basted and natural) . . .
But you wouldn't think it
was pizza . . . as pizzas go
. . . especially the dough
. . It's made on a.12" x 36"
baker's peel, that long board
used to reach in and pull
them out, which when
served looks like one great
big streudel ... . (At lunch,
a 6" x 6" pizza gives three 2"
x 6" pizzas plus Greek
Salad, $3.45) . . . The
dough is flaky as streudel
. . . and it comes in two
types . . . meat with seven
items including meat balls,
and vegetarian with five
items . . . The Hickory's
pizzas are really like noth-
ing you've ever had before!
Bar-b-q ribs at Hickory's
are small baby ribs with all
fat and back skin removed
. . . They are never allowed
to dry out . . . or get cold
. . . Moisture is retained by
transfers from bar-b-q rotis-
serie to warmer to radiant
heat oven.
Thirty-six slabs on the 12
spits can be produced at the
same time within 45 min-
utes . . . 84 chickens in an
hour . . . Nothing is
allowed to even cool down
. . . 30-item salad bar with
entrees from 5 p.m. to clos-
ing is 10e . . . Regular soup
and salad bar is $2.95.
In a space of 11 days dur-
ing the recent holidays,
Hickory's at Fairlane had
over 1,000 people daily . . .
14 times turnovers from 11
to 9:30.
Back to those unusual
pizzas at Hickory's . .
They are made of puffed
pastry dough . . . measure
a full 6" x 24" . . . filled
with sauce, onions, green
