IN MEXICO, on the San
Diego border, a restaurant
called Fung Lim's used to
seat 1,000 people and was
noted for its excellent din-
ing . . . Szechuan, Mandarin
and Cantonese.
Today, the owner, Tay On
Lim, is working in the
kitchen for his son and
daughter-in-law, Frank and
Anna Lim ... at another
ng Lim's re-
place called Fli
cently opened on Nine Mile
between Livernois and
Rosewood (Wyoming) in
Oak Park.
It's not a big place . . . sea-
ting only about 60 . . . (the
Fung Lim's kitchen in
Mexico was that big) . . . but
regardless of size, a wonder-
ful family tradition con-
tinues on ... good food and
service . . . A separate party
room also seats 120.
The new Fung Lim's
with its varied types of
dishes, is a family affair
... Anna's mother, Linda
Yet, is a smiling, gracious
waitress . . . her father,
Ding Yet, is a general
worker ... sister, Betty
Yet, is a part-time wait-
ress ... and brother
Charles Yet is a busboy.
Plus Frank's dad Tay On
Lim, in the kitchen are two
chefs from Hong Kong .. .
all proficient in the ways of
Oriental cooking in the five
woks that put on so much
goodness.
The Szechuan and Man-
darin dishes are mild,
medium or hot . . . and here
is one place true to its word
. . . You want mild, that's
what is servQd . which
was the way we liked our
Szechuan Chicken . . . very
delicious ... combined with
bamboo shoots, Chinese
mushrooms, green onions,
grilled peppers, garlic and
Spanish onion.
I wanted some soup so or-
dered the sizzling rice .. .
not knowing that the serv-
ing for one would be more
than enough for two . . . In
fact, if someone wanted to
share their soup, there's no
extra charge for another
bowl and spoon.
It's probably one of the
best soups you can eat .. .
with chicken, peapods,
bamboo shoots, water
chestnuts, fresh vegeta-
bles, fresh mushrooms
. .. and the strips of rice
that crackle as they hit
the yummy hot liquid.
Want your food cooked in
oil? . . . Just ask for it and
Fung Lim's will oblige.
The menu has a very wide
range that seems to include
all taste facets for gourmet
Oriental dining at reason-
able prices.
There's no such thing at
Fung Lim's as ordering Pek-
ing Duck 24 hours in ad-
vance . . . They cook it fresh
every day . . . and it is in line
among the many favorites
that Frank and Anna Lim
are serving their happy cus-
tomers.
You'll like the intimate,
friendly atmosphere of
Fung Lim's . . . You'll enjoy
the food and service . . . and
you'll be glad you met

people like Frank and Anna
Lim and all their relatives.
STAFFORD'S in Oak
Park has been sold . . . New
owner has taken over .. .
will change name in about a
month.
BROADWAY MAR-
KET will rise again in a
couple months on
Middlebelt and 14 Mile Rd.
. . owned by Bernie Sherot,
D
. ave Auer, Eddie Rosen-
berg, Howard Rosenberg
and Bob Boesky.
Most of the booths are
being designed by Cary
Greenberg Associates .. .
whose reputation is becom-
ing widespread.
Broadway Market will
have produce, deli, meats,
bakery, coneys, ice cream,
popcorn, fresh fish, wine
shop, video game arcade .. .
even shoe shine, newspaper
stand, etc. . . . in much the
same motif as the old
Broadway Market
downtown.
The former Great Scott
supermarket may have an
altogether new look . . . but
one thing will still be there
besides the four walls, floor
