TEL AVIV (JTA) — Fire-

fighters wearing gas masks
rescued passengers trapped
below decks in the Greek
car ferry Anion which burst
into flames in Haifa bay
Sunday.
The 7,000-ton motorship
was rocked by an explosion
while entering the harbor.
Local police have not ruled
out terrorist action as the
cause.
The Anion was built in
Italy in 1965 for the Israeli
Somerfin company as the
Nili. She was sold to Greek
owners several years later.
