coconut and chestnut
vendors are to be found
on nearly every
street corner;- an occa-
sional young street musi-
cian serenades passers-
by who toss coins into an
open guitar case; the
pizza parlors, pubs and
snack-bars fill with
people, all contributing
to the cacophony. Some
find the noise level grat-
ing; others find it a balm.
By 11, the frenzy has
reached its peak. Dizengoff
simply cannot hold any
more people. This is one of
the few occasions when
automobile traffic slows
down on Dizengoff. It is

simply impossible to drive
quickly with so many people
weaving in and out. The
noise on the street is also at
its peak. It is a once-a-week
carnival.
