Taxes Aimed-
at Road Safety

JERUSALEM (JNI) —
While Finance Minister
Yoram Aridor last week re-
duced purchase taxes,
transport Minister Haim
Corfu proposed a higher
surtax for the same purpose:
road safety.
Both financial measures
are aimed at an 18 percent
decrease in tire prices be-
fore the rainy winter season
and the collection of a five
percent surtax on gasoline
and diesel oil to launch the
government's road safety
. campaign.
Moshe Bakar, adviser
to the Safety Administra-
tion, told the Knesset
Economic Committee last
week that if present
trends continue, the
number of road accident
victims will grow from
18,000 this year to 22,000
in 1985 and 26,000 in 1990.
But traffic-related deaths
have decreased drastically
since the Aug. 10 collision
which left 22 dead and 41
injured. That accident gave
immediate focus to a safety
campaign aimed at reduc-
ing one of the world's high-
est road accident rates.

MDA Emergency
Facility Opens
in Kiryat Shmona Louis Lifshitz
KIRYAT SHMONA — At

the height of the August
Katyusha rocket blitz on
northern Israel and
Lebanese border towns, the
Israeli government made a
commitment to the people of
Kiryat Shmona to establish
a fully staffed and equipped

clinic, sponsored by Magen
‘. id Adorn (MDA) opened
month.
The new center will
dramatically improve the
quality of emergency medi-
cal response for the • entire
Northern Galilee, according
to Brig. Gen. (Res.) Amizur
Kfir, director general of
MDA. "This central
emergency room will be
linked to all the outlying
kibutzim and settlements
so that in any future rocket
or bomb attacks, casualty
information will be im-
mediately flashed to Kiryat
Shmona," according to Kfir.

SMALL BEQUESTS
BUILD A
STRONG ISRAEL

If the tradition of including the Jewish
.National Fund in the Will of every Jew were
invariably followed, sufficient resources would
be accumulated to ensure the future of the
young Jewish State on a sound basis of land
development, social welfare, and justice.

A bequest to the Jewish National Fund
should be as traditional as having a Blue Box
in one's home.

You may want your bequest to be
dedicated to aAvestation, to a village, a
Nachlah, to a children's play area, to perpetual
• yahrzeit or ka.ddish, or to some form of
permanent tribute in the names of persons
dear to you.

Consult the Foundation for Jewish
Nixiional Fund, 27308 Southfield- Rd.,
'557-664i
They will gladly' co-operate with you in
working out plans to meet your special•
requirements, in strict privacy.
