Both financial measures are aimed at an 18 percent decrease in tire prices be- fore the rainy winter season and the collection of a five percent surtax on gasoline and diesel oil to launch the government's road safety . campaign. Moshe Bakar, adviser to the Safety Administra- tion, told the Knesset Economic Committee last week that if present trends continue, the number of road accident victims will grow from 18,000 this year to 22,000 in 1985 and 26,000 in 1990. But traffic-related deaths have decreased drastically since the Aug. 10 collision which left 22 dead and 41 injured.
