FRESH SUMMER SOLE SHOW

The Best of Everything

ONE OF THE finest
tributes to an actress is that
she is at her best in what-
ever _the setting . This is
very aptly true of Nancy.
Gurwin, easily this area's
premier lady of the stage .. .
who has gone from one ex-
treme to the other in an-
other great performance.
Whereas her former site
for "Funny Girl" and "An-
nie Get Your Gun" was
"claustrophobia country"
Nancy is now doing a won,
derful show with co-star Joe
Lannen . . . on a new 40-foot
long and 16-foot deep stage
. . . at Mama Mia Restau-
rant in Union Lake . . . No
more neck-straining to see
Nancy . . . The almost
three-foot-high stage is very
professional .. . and no mat-
ter where people sit in the
150-seat Mama Mia Dinner
Theater, they can see the
show with comfort.
It's a beautiful room .. .
mirrored all around the
walls . . . with large picture
windows to look out at abso-
lutely gorgeous scenery
from the restaurant that
Gabe- Spina has owned only
20 months.
- But back to Nancy and
Joe . . . and a pleasure in-
deed ... from the time a
three-piece orchestra
played its overture . . . to
the tinseled curtain open-
ing ... to some of the best
musical comedy acting
I've seen in a long time.
This is the second time
Nancy has performed in "I
Do, I Do" . . . and it is hardly
conceivable that she could
do it any better than the
presentation with Joe Lan-
nen.
This very fine musical
comedy with a cast of two
persons begins with Joe and
Nancy as a bride and groom
singing "I Do, I Do" . . . and
walking among the audi-
ence as though they were
people at the wedding .. .
Then the honeymoon night
. . . Nancy's first pregnancy
. . . Michael (Joe) sick in bed
calling for Agnes (Nancy)
who tells him he has her
labor pains . . . Then comes
the real ones by Agnes .. .
birth of a boy and Agnes
hanging diapers . . .
Michael bringing intoys ap-
lenty.
Then a daughter . . . A
husband and wife argument
. . . Getting ready to go to a
formal and both making a
list of things the other does
wrong . . . Argument after
the party . . . Michael talks
of another woman . . . Agnes
does, her great "Flaming
Agnes" number and the
audience wonders where
she gets all that energy.
"New Year's Eve at
home -- their boy 16-
years-old . . . both singing
"Where Are Snows Of
Yesterday" . . . as each
wonder how the time
slipped by . . . Michael
finding "bourbon" in
son's room, goes for razor
strap, but Agnes says no
as they wait for him to
come home ... Turns out
to be Cod Liver Oil ... the
son. wanted father • to

In season now. and Meriwether's has it in six varieties,
all fresh and delicious. For example

know what terrible thing
he made him drink years
ago.
Joe plays clarinet and
Nancy the saxophone
(really!) "When The Kids
Get Married" . . . Daughter
is wed . . . Both not as happy
and free as they thought
they'd be when the children
were wed . . . Agnes says
she s leaving — going away
forever because she thinks
her job as wife is over . . . He
tells her how much he needs
her.
