In an unrelated action,
the full Knesset voted 36-23
to strip Religious Affairs
Minister Aharon Abu-
Hatzeira of his parliamen-
tary immunity so that he
may stand trial for alleged
criminal offenses during his
term as mayor of Ramie five
years ago.
Abu-Hatzeira is now
awaiting the verdict in his
trial for soliciting and ac-
cepting bribes from reli-
gious institutions that re-
ceived funds from his minis-
try. The trial ended last
month but a second waiver
of immunity was required
for him to face the new
charges. The House Com-
mittee voted 10-1 last week
for the waiver.

Hunter Novel
Tells of Family
in Turbulent '60s
The turbulent events of
the 1960s and their effect on
one family in particular
provide the setting for
"Love, Dad" by Evan
Hunter (Crown).
The Crofts live with their
teenage daughter, Lissie, in
a converted sawmill in Rut-
ledge, Conn., an exclusive
community of achievers.
Lissie's mother, Connie, is a
Vassar graduate; her
father, Jamie, a successful
photographer.
But Lissie, in her rush to
independence and self-
identity, along with others
of her generation, goes her
own way. She leaves school,
skips to London and begins
a journey across Europe to
India. Breaking all the
rules, flouting her parent's
values, she becomes the ob-
ject of the deep concern, and
often, the violent rage of her
father.
When Lissie returns,
she is surprised and
angry to find that things
are not the same. While
she was out living her
own life, her dad was fal-
ling in love with another
woman. Hurt and con-
fused over her parents'
divorce, Lissie is not
ready to accept for them
what she sees as clear-cut
rights for herself.
Evan Hunter is the
author of many novels, in-
eluding "Blackboard
Jungle," "Last Summer"
and "Streets of Gold."
