Samuel Schiff has been
named the 1981- Michigan
small business adviser/
counselor advocate of the
year by the Michigan office
of the Small Business Ad-
ministration.
Schiff is a member of the
Detroit Chapter of SCORE
(Service Corps of Retired
Executives).
With a background in
industrial machinery sales,
publishing, marketing and
advertising, Schiff is in-
volved in personal counsel-
ing, participation in pre-
business workshops and
publicizing SCORE's serv-
ices.
He recently created and
presented to SBA and
SCORE officials in Wash-
ington, D.C. a program for
videotaping the pre-
business workshops. The
program is being considered
as a national service for all
SCORE chapters in the U.S.
Schiff has served for sev-
eral years as chairman of
the endowment program for
Federation. He headed the
Arts and Crafts Division of
Allied Jewish Campaign,
and served on the boards of
the United Jewish
Charities, Jewish Family
Service, Jewish Home for
the Aged, Jewish Voca-
tional Service and others.

May Is Savings
and Loan Month

The role of Michigan's
savings and loan business
in contributing to the pro-
gress of the state over the
past 150 years has been of-
ficially recognized by Gov-
ernor William G. Milliken
through a declaration pro-
claiming this month as Say-
ings and Loan -Month
throughout the state.
American Federal Sav-
ings will celebrate the an-
niversary with a promotion
— "Savings and Loans:
Housing America for 150
