Nazis Doubted

WASHINGTON — The
Federal Bureau of Investi-
gation is asking the Na-
tional Socialist Party of
America for proof that John
W. Hinckley Jr. was a
member of the Nazi organ-
ization.
FBI officials believe, ac-
cording to Newsweek mag-
azine, that the Nazis tried to
capitalize on Hinckley's as-
sassination attempt against
President Reagan by claim-
ing he was a Nazi member
who was thrown out of the
party because he was too
violent.

square honoring the late
American labor leader
George Meany was dedi-
cated April 22 in
Jerusalem's Ramot suburb.

Officiating at the cere-
mony, Meany's AFL-CIO
successor Lane Kirkland
said the plaza was the only
commemorative action
Meany approved before his
death. A stalwart friend of
Israel, Meany "wanted a
world where the little guy
wouldn't be pushed
around," Kirkland said.
No American officials
attended the ceremonies,
located over the "Green

With the April 6 opening of
a presidential conference on
the well-being of the child,
Israel became the first UN

The long-term conference
will unite top-level experts
in education, health, eco-
nomics, housing, commu-
nity services and crime pre-
vention to increase aware-
ness of child problems in Is-
rael and to lobby the gov-
ernment and organizations
to improve policies on child
