Polakoff Retires; Friedman Will Head JTA Washington Bureau

NEW YORK (JTA) —
Joseph Polakoff, the Jewish
Telegraphic Agency's
Washington Bureau chief
for the last 10 years, will re-
tire April 3, it was an-
nounced by Martin Fox,

JTA president.
David Friedman, a staff
writer for the JTA in its
New York office for the last
eight years, will be trans-
ferred to Washington as
bureau chief.

Polkoff covered many
major stories in Washing-

JTA reporter to receive full
and permanent accredita-
tion at the White House, the
State Department and Se-
nate and House Press Gal-
leries.
Prior to joining the JTA,
Polakoff spent 28 years in
the information agencies of
the U.S. government.
Friedman, who has been a
newspaperman for more
than 22 years, has covered_
major stories for the JTA,
including the 1976 and 1980
Democratic national con-
ventions in New York. He
was one of the first reporters
in the Jewish media to point
out how the elimination of
the Electoral College would
adversely affect the Jewish
