THE NEW TOPINKA's
Country House on W. Seven
Mile, west of Telegraph,
seems to have finally hit the
jackpot with its combina-
tion of so many things that
make for a very good all-
around dining and
entertainment spot.
Same name . . . same
beautiful interior making it
among the Midwest's most
intimately lavish . . . same
owner, Al Balooly.

However, there is a dif-
ference . . . a lot of it .. .
these days at Topinka's
Country House.
Prices have been cut to
fit all budgets ... It has
one of the finest chefs in
the country ... and
there's entertainment
nightly for listening and
dancing.
Sure, Topinka's used to
have specials every so often
. . . but their specials many
times were still higher than
the average at other places
. . . Not that Topinka's has
ever been the average place
. . . far from it . . . especially
now.
There's daily dinners of
$6.95 (sirloin steak or fresh
scrod) . . . a family-style
chicken dinner on Sundays
with all the works at $6.95
(children $4.95) . . . the
large family brunch 10 a.m.
to 2 p.m. on Sundays, $5.95
(children $4.50).
The new chef at Topinka's
Country House, Frank
Frazier, isn't just very good
. . . he's great.
And we recently had the
taste tingling pleasure of
having something we never
ate before . . . Chicken
Oscar . . . fresh boneless
chicken breasts, sauteed
with crab meat and bear-
naise sauce . . . Its delicate
flavor was a delight . . .
served to us by extra-fine
waitress (Topinka's has
some of the best) Barbara
Gonzales (it'll be Barbara
Sabo as of April 1 in Las
Vegas.)
Barbara also. brought
us some cheese and garlic
sticks Frank makes
which have few peers
anywhere.
Naturally, a visit to the
large Topinka's appetizer
and salad bar . . . also a
meal in itself . . . and many
times is by people who want
just this.
Then came another
crowning Chef Frank
Frazier jewel . . . fried ice
cream .. he calls Creme
Flambe . . . French vanilla
ice cream lightly covered
with graham cracker and
coconut, with a rum choco-
late sauce . . . Boy, is it good!
Taking turns managing
days and evenings are a
couple of Topinka's Country
House favorites . . . Sam
Jarrus and Garth Cappy.
On stage Tuesdays
through Saturdays are
recording artists Carl
and Brenda Vanover
with Shenandoah . . . six
pieces with a lot of music
for dancing and hand-
clapping rhythmizing .. .
Their latest disc on Wel-
lington Records is "Just
Your Conscience" and
"My Name Is Alice" ...
Carl and Brenda are also
songwriters ...lyrics and
music . . . and host a radio
show on WCXI 4 p.m.
Sundays spinning re-
cords and interviewing
folks.
The versatility of Carl
and Brenda and Shenan-
doah has come out at Topin-
ka's Country House . . .
