This is his sixth annual ap-

DIMITRI'S NAME on
Nine Mile and Coolidge in
Oak Park has been changed
to Alexander's . . . same
owner, Pete Vasiliou and
same operation . . . It's open
seven days a week . . . with
Pete coming in at 5 a.m. to
do most of the home cooking
. . . doubling as chef, owner,
dishwasher, busboy, etc.
NORTHFIELD HIL-
TON in Troy is rolling back
its prices to 1976 levels on
Feb. 9 . . . The roll-back will
be in effect for the one day
and will apply to guest
rooms, restaurant and
cocktail lounge. -
Reason is the fifth birth-
day of the popular hotel
which opened its doors Feb.
9, 1976.
Any person whose birth-
day falls on Feb. 9, and who
can produce a driver's
license or birth certificate
as proof, will be given a
complimentary dinner for
two in Wicker Works res-
taurant during entire
month of February.
Birthday winners
should call Gayle in Gen-
eral Manager Art Gim-
son's office ... 879-2100,
ext. 7001 ... for complete
details and information.
A large birthday cake will
be baked and donated to
Children's Hospital for
their young patients to
enjoy. A duplicate cake will
be on display in the lobby.
Northfield Hilton em-
ployees participated in a
Fifth Cocktail Contest to
concoct and submit a new
and unusual cocktail recipe
to help celebrate the hotel's
birthday year . . . The
cocktail, which will be
served all through 1981,
was selected by a panel of
judges, of which I was one.
Winner was a late entry
and consisted of 1 oz. Cherry
Heering, 1 oz. dark creme de
cocoa, 1/2 oz. brandy and 1 1/2
cups ice cream . . . Winn-
ning name of drink, by Hur-
ley's manager John Doyle,
was "Take Five" (judges felt
it was in keeping with the
fifth birthday plus denoting
taking a break for a drink).
Five cocktails were
selected among the 15
entrees.
Northfield Hilton's
staff includes award-
winning employees in the
hotel industry itself . . .
Sue Miller, a Wicker
Works waitress, was cho-
sen Hilton Hotels Corp.
employee of the year in
1977 . . . She received a
one-week paid vacation
for two to Hawaii includ-
ing air fare, $500 in
-
spending money and $250
in Hilton stock.
Ron Monte, manager of
Wicker Works, was one of
only four cited for out-
standing service by the De-
troit Civic Host Committee
during the Republican Con-
vention last summer in De-
troit . . . Ron knows his food,
both at home and at the res-
taurant . . . plus being one of
the most personable and
congenial managers in the
restaurant game.
Connie Walmsley, a room
maid, has just been selected
runner-up in the 1980
Roomkeeper of the Year
Contest jointly sponsored by
the American Hotel and
Motel Association and
Armour-Dial, Inc. . . .
AH & MA, represents more
than 7,500 properties with
over a million rooms.
Brian Minard, former
maitre d' at the Wicker
Works, has been made
assistant banquet manager
. . . His place is taken by
pleasant Napoleon Ross.

The word "ghetto" comes
from the old Venetian word
"geto," meaning foundry. In
the early 16th Century,
5,000 Italian Jews lived on
the site of an abandoned
foundry in Venice. The dis-
trict was called Geto.
