NEW YORK — Elizabeth
Taylor Warner's love for her
third husband, Mike Todd,
led to her interest and devo-
tion to her adopted faith of
Judaism, according to the
Intelligence Report in
Parade Magazine (Dec. 28).
The Parade article states:
"Sometime next year —
before or after she makes
her Broadway debut in a re-
vival of Lillian Hellman's
1939 hit "The Little Foxes"
— actress Elizabeth Taylor,
48, will conduct drama
seminars in Jerusalem at
Hebrew University.
"Taylor, whose formal
education was limited to
high school instruction
on the MGM lot, has, al-
ways considered Hebrew
University her favorite
institution of higher
learning — largely be-
cause it evokes memories
of her third husband,
Mike Todd, the late,
flamboyant, irrepres-
sible producer who was
born Avrom Goldbogen.
"When the actress first
fell seriously in love with
Todd in 1956, she was 24,
twice-married and already
eager to convert to Judaism.
Older and wiser, he advised
that any religious conver-
sion was a serious matter
ELIZABETH TAYLOR
involving study and medi-
tation and not to be entered
into lightly.
" 'Wait until after we!re
married,' he suggested.
"During her short-lived
marriage to Todd, the ac-
tress — occupied with her
third pregnancy and her
film work — let her reli-
gious instruction slide.
After Todd was killed in a
1958 air crash, however,
Taylor sought solace in
Judaism and was instructed
by Rabbi Max Nussbaum.
"On March 3, 1959 —
during a period in which
she was contemplating a
fourth marriage, this one
to singer Eddie Fisher,
who'd been best man at
her wedding to Mike
Todd — Elizabeth was

JERUSALEM (ZINS) —
The Shiff hotel chain will
begin operating a weekly
flight from New York to Is-
rael in March, and add an
additional flight in April.
Haim Shiff told reporters
that Israel may have an
8-10 percent decline in
tourism in 1981. Shiff
blamed local authorities for
tripling hotel taxes and said
Israel government tourist
offices in the United States
were ineffective.
He said with the proper
promotion, tourism to Israel
could be doubled.

1969, two years after the
reunification of Jerusalem
under Israeli control.
Last year, it was decided
the committee would be-
come involved in dis-
cussions on the political fu-
ture of Jerusalem. "Recog-
nizing that political de-
velopments in the last two
years have created a new
reality and that the unity Of
Jerusalem has come under
attack," Kollek wrote com-
mittee members last Sep-
tember, "we should be in
position to provide detailed
and factual information on
matters supporting contin-
ued unity of Jerusalem
under Israeli sovereignty."
Rabin Curtails
Visit in U.S.
WASHINGTON (JTA) —
Former Israeli Premier Yit-
zhak Rabin is cutting short
his current visit to the
United States, apparently
because of the government
crisis in Israel. Rabin was
on a speaking tour on behalf
of the United Jewish Ap-
peal.
"My vote might be mis-
sed" in the Knesset, he told
an audience attending the
foreign policy symposium of
the Anti-Defamation
League of Bnai Brith. "I'm
the only member of the
Knesset who is out of the
country." The Knesset is
expected to vote this week
on a motion to dissolve itself
and set a date for early elec-
tions.
An address scheduled to
be delivered to day to the

Section of the Allied Jewish
Campaign in Detroit was

converted to the Jewish
faith by Rabbi Nussbaum
at the Temple Israel in
Hollywood. Her parents,
Sara and Francis Taylor,
were present when she
adopted the Jewish name
Elisheba, which means
`dedicated to God.'
" 'This is something I've
wanted to do for a long
time,' the actress an-
nounced.
"Elizabeth Taylor, has
been married seven times to
six husbands. There is little
doubt, however, that Mike
Todd was the great, un-
forgettable love of her life.
Which is why she converted
to his faith, supports it
when she can (she was re-
cently in Los Angeles at a
dinner honoring Simon
Wiesenthal, famed hunter
of escaped Nazi criminals),
and plans to conduct drama
seminars in Israel.
"She hopes her current
husband, Sen. John Warner
(R., Va.), will accompany
her to Israel and share the
pleasure 'which swells up
inside me every time I see
Hebrew University. It is a
university that I love.' "
