Levin Reports on M.E. Trip

over-all security problem in
the Middle East "but I don't
think it's essential and I
don't think it (U.S. security)
could wait for the solution of
the Palestinian problem."
In this connection, he
noted that Prince Abdullah,
head of the Saudi Arabian
National Guard, twice said,
"Oh, no" when he was faced
with Levin's questions
whether pre-positioning
U.S. military equipment in
the Middle East should
await solution of the Pales-
tinian problem.

cause he also doesn't want
an independent Palestinian
state.
Although at Rabat in
1974, the PLO was set up as
the sole representative for
the Palestinians and that it
alone would negotiate for
them, Levin saw that Hus-
sein in 1977, despite that
Rabat statement, Began
talks with the PLO about a
governing structure finally
for the West Bank and
"self-determination."
"There's potential day-
light there," he said, be-
Ise the PLO-Hussein
,Ascussions on "self-
determination" are "a
deviation and an impor-
tant modification" of the
Rabat position.
Levin stressed that solu-
tion of the Palestinian ques-
tion would help the U.S.

Gold.
It can set off a
chain reaction.

Wait till you see the gleam in her eye when you
give her chains of real gold.
She'll say "I love it!" as sure as the chains say "I
love you."
And who knows where that could lead?
So look for the Karat mark on every piece of

And then, look out!

2 Die in Negev Flash Floods Honey from the Hand of Man

TEL AVIV (JTA) —
Roads throughout southern
Israel were slowly re-
opened last week after the
heaviest rains in 20 years
ripped out .roadways and
left towns and settlements
stranded.
The flash floods filling
formerly dry riverbeds
within seconds caused two
deaths: a 22-year-old
French tourist and a two-
year-old child swept from its
father's arms when their
truck overturned.
Police had warned
motorists to keep off the
roads, but many drivers had

By LEO SCHNEIDERMAN

to be rescued by army half-
track vehicles and helicop-
ters.
The Arkia Inland Air-
line flew special flights to
Eilat to rescue tourists
stranded at the country's
southern beach resort
area.
The meteorological serv-
ice said that 11/2 inches of
rain which fell in Eilat dur-
ing 24 hours was 150 per-
cent of the annual average.
It said the downpour fell
from dense clouds brought
from tropical Africa by a
high-level 200-mile an hour
jet stream.

What is better than honey
From the hand of man?
The dove spoke before the Lord
And wisely said,
"Better Your bitter olive
Than honey from the hand of man!"
We are beholden to each other
Must give and take
Honey, wool, iron,
Assurances, love, recognition
We believe we are kept alive
By one another
But the wise man, like the dove, says,
"His gift of life alone
Sustains us.
His portion is better than
All their honey!"
