The Best of Everything)

(Continued from Page 23)
concerns about salt in our
diets; that an excess of it can
be a contributing factor in
the development of high
blood pressure.
He also mentioned his
concern about the
preservatives, artificial
coloring and flavors,
stabilizers, emulsifiers that
go into the overly-processed
foods we eat. There is
more and more being writ-
ten about the wonders of a
natural diet and it is im-
portant that we are kept in-
formed as much as possible
on these controversial sub-
jects. It is always a pleasure
to read good, honest report-
ing that lets us make up our
own minds what is best for
us.
Men, listen to this one.
Add zing to your love life
with zinc. Scientists re-
port it doesn't require a
severe zinc deficiency to
play havoc with sexual
vigor. Smoking, alcohol
and anxiety can deplete
your reserve.
In the East, the legendary
plant Ginseng has for
thousands of years been re-
garded as an aide in long
life, an aphrodisiac and a
cure for many diseases.
Once used exclusively by
the nobility of China, Gin-
seng is now attracting at-
tention in the West as a
natural tonic and an anti-
stress agent.
I use it and love it. Cary
Grant has been using it for
years and just look at him..
Ginseng is one of the big
pluses.
I dare you to find the
gooiest hot fudge sundae to
equal the fresh fruit salad
and cottage cheese at
Athens Food and Juice Bar
on Collins Avenue in Miami
Beach. It is chock full of
papaya, pineapple, melons,
grapefruit and oranges over
cottage cheese and topped
with their own special re-
cipe of a blended fruit mix-
ture.
It is just a small little
place with a counter and
10 bar stools, but you
should see them pile in.
The chauffeurs pull up
with their privileged
few who wait in line just
like the rest of us.
This wonderful concon-
tion is full of vitamins, min-
erals and protein and it is
so-o-o-o good for you. When
you can eat like this, why
bother with junk foods that
have lots of calories and lit-
tle or no nutritional value to
them. This is something
that you can easily make in
your own kitchen. Bon
appetite a la Detroit, Michi-
gan.
Do you know what a
burn-out is? It is someone
who has abused their bodies
with drugs or alcohol or
both. While I was away for a
few days during the
Thanksgiving holiday, I
couldn't get over how many
of our youth do just that.
They are totally into
Quaaludes, cocaine and
Valium. A very big drug
culture is still going on.
Why anyone would want

to throw their life way is
very hard for me to under-
stand. If you have your
health, you've got it all.
Hang on to it tightly my
friends, cherish and care for
it and if you're going to pop a
pill, take a vitamin instead.
I believe vitamins are
so beneficial. The barest
minimum I take is a vita-
min and mineral combi-
nation, a B-Complex, Vit-
amin C and of course,
Vitamin E. For those of
you who are already
hooked on drugs, Dr.
Portner of Farmington
Hills • states that
megavitamin therapy,
along with other meas-
ures, can assist your
withdrawal from drugs
and other noxious sub-
stances.
There was a rather
frightening article, I
thought, in the Miami News
about formaldehyde being
called a cancer risk. In this
particular instance, it is
said that formaldehyde was
an ingredient being used in
insulation in homes.
The federal panel on for-
maldehyde stated, "Labora-
tory rats exposed to its gas
developed a cancerous
growth in nasal passages."
It is not always possible to
stay away from these harm-
ful chemicals as we are not
always made aware of
where they are and of what
they are in. But one thing
we can control is the food we
eat and the water we drink.
Stay with whole grains,
legumes, fresh fruits and
vegetables, nuts and seeds
and try to always keep in
mind that whatever is fresh
is really the best for you.
