Recently, a prominent
member of the community,
Jeffrey Schwartz, married a
local Chinese woman, the

Wu had converted prev-
iously to Judaism. _The
lavish ceremony was held in
the splendor of the famous
Grand Hotel built by
Madame Chiang Kai Shek.
This was the first re-
corded Jewish-Chinese
wedding in Taiwanese his-
tory and the event received
extensive coverage both in
the local newspapers and
television.

Bnai Brith Plan
to Aid Emigres
WASHINGTON — Bnai
Brith International has an-
nounced a four-point plan
expanding its program to
help Soviet Jewish emigres
integrate into American
society.
The plan calls for the
building of a two-way
bridge to help the Jewish
community appreciate the
background and culture of
Soviet Jews and to help
Soviet Jews understand the
American Jewish commu-
nity; using Bnai Brith's
concept of "mitzvot" to help
Soviet immigrants learn
about public, private and
not-for-profit sectors of
American life; establishing
the principle of person-to-
person, family-to-family
contact; and developing a
training program for volun-
teers in cooperation with
other Jewish service agen-
cies, which would be sensi-
tive to the needs of immig-
rants.
