the need to save money! Your CLUB ELITE membership gives you this kind
of buying power on virtually all goods and services that you purchase every

designer clothes to hardware and everything in between! The cost of your Club
Elite membership is just $25 per year. A small charge indeed, for the chance to

"special person" on your gift list an investment in savings for an entire year!
What woman wouldn't appreciate a 20 to 30% savings on clothing, footwear or
jewelry?, a newphew who can save 20% on rustproofing his car?, or your
"college girl" who spends a small fortune on school supplies, will thank you
every time she save 20% with her Club Elite card! Can you think of anyone who
wouldn't love to save one dollar every time they have their car washed? A Club

Insight Into the World of Israelis

By CARL ALPERT

HAIFA — The colors, the
sights, the sounds, the
aromas, the people which
make up the ever-changing,
ever-interesting kaleido-
scope of life in Israel:
Compulsory Legibility:
The Ministry of Health now
requires that every physi-
cian's prescription in Israel
be typed or written legibly
in block letters to prevent
all possibility of error.
Maximum Economy: A
plastics plant in Beersheva
offers an annual prize of
2,000 Shekels ($350) to the
employee who has the best
suggestion for efficiency or
economy in the plant. This
year the prize went to Yosef
Al-Halabi. His proposal
(which was adopted): Re-
duce the prize to 1,000
Shekels.
Ask the Rabbi: A local
wag is said to have ad-
dressed an inquiry to the
Chief Rabbi in Jersalem:
If five schizophrenics get
together can they be
counted as a full minyan?
Never Too Late: Mariana,
an illiterate mother of 10
children, was ridiculed by
her friends for starting a
course in reading and writ-
ing "at her age." She ex-
plained, "If I were going up
four flights of stairs and
didn't find the light switch
until the third, should I
leave it untouched for the
*rest of the way up, or enjoy
the light until I reached the
end?"
Priorities: The Histadrut
refused to endorse Premier
Begin's call on employees
throughout the country to
make monthly voluntary
contributions for aid to the
needy. Knesset Member
Meir Cohen was enraged to
discover, on the other hand,
that under pressure from
the Histadrut and the Labor
Council, employees in the
Haifa area were being
cajoled into contributing a
day's pay each month for the
benefit of the Haifa Hapoel
soccer team.
Occupational Hazards:
Television cameramen who
came to "shoot" Israel
President Yitzhak Navon as
he contributed blood for
Mogen' David Adorn were
each in turn "ordered" by
the President to lie down on
the cot and add their share
to the blood bank.
How Far is Israel? The
country's territorial
waters extend only six
nautical miles into the
sea, and the eavesdrop-
ping Soviet ships have
come as close as seven or
eight miles from shore.
Israel's authorities are

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
The State 'Department reit-
erated President Carter's
view that a summit meeting
is "unlikely" between him-
self, Premier Menahem
Begin of Israel and
President Anwar Sadat of
Egypt.

Most pleasures, like flow-
ers, when gathered, die.

seriously considering ex-
tension of the territorial
limits, which can be le-
gally done under interna-
tional law and by act of
the Knesset. Egypt's
soverignty extends 12
miles out to sea.
Best Possible Advice:
When Shimon Peres met Is-
rael's best known as-
trologer, Ilan Pecker, he
spent two hours with him.
No information is available
on questions asked or advice
given.
Party Line: This political
party has no lines. Yitzhak
Kol has announced estab-
lishment of a new political
party seeking the support of
all Israelis who are still
awaiting installation of
telephones. Potential fam-
ily supporters number
about 250,000 voters.
Made in Israel: About 35
percent of Israel's exports go
to West Germany, which is
in second place, just behind
the United States, in import
of Israel products.
God in the Stock Mar-
ket: Miksha, a mutual
fund registered on the Tel
Aviv Stock Exchange, in-
vests only in the shares of
companies that observe
the Sabbath, Shmitta
year and other halakhic
restrictions. It thus satis-
fies the requirements of
ultra-Orthodox inves-
tors. A joke? It has turned
in one of the best invest-
ment records of any of

the dozens of Tel Aviv
mutual funds!
Across the Border: Israel
television carries no com-
mercials, but so many Is-
raelis watch Jordanian TV
that a number of interna-
tional companies buy time
on the neighboring channel
and beam their merchandis-
ing messages across the
border.
