tion of a new Sabbath serv-
ice to begin 1 0 a.m. Satur-
day. It will be led by Joey
Kowalsky in the double
classroom of the Hebrew
school annex.
This service will use the
Sabbath siddur designed
by former youth director
Cantor Earl Berris for
use in junior congrega-
tions. It includes songs,
stories and enrichment
activities .prepared by
Kowalsky. The Youth
Commission has invited
second grade students at
Hillel or Akiva.
Attendance stamp credit
will be given by Kow-
alsky at the conclusion of
the service. The sister-
hood will provide re-
freshments. This group
will join the senior con-
gregation in the main
sanctuary at the conclu-
sion of the service.
Nitzanim meets 10 a.m.
Saturdays in the board
room, under the guidance of
Beth Norman. The group
will present its surprise
musical program at the
synagogue board meeting

Central Region United
Synagogue Youth will
sponsor its annual Center
Area Kinnus, Thursday
through Nov. 2.
The group will meet for
registration, orientation
and a program at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday at Cong. Bnai
Moshe. Refreshments will
be served.
On Oct. 31, the group will
meet for Shaharit services
at 8:30 a.m. at Bnai Moshe.
Following services, they
will board buses to go to the
Renaissance Center for a
scavenger hunt and trip to
the top of the Detroit Plaza
Hotel. After lunch at Hart
Plaza, they will go to Ken-
nedy Square for a rally for
Soviet Jewry.
The kinnus will recon-
vene at 5 p.m. at Cong.
Beth Shalom for Minha,
candlelighting, Kabalat
Shabat and Maariv.
Dinner will follow and
Rabbi David A. Nelson of
Cong. Beth Shalom and
director of the Michigan
Region of United
Synagogue of America
will give a Dvar Torah.
Following the meal, the
keynote address will be
given by Gary Torgow, a
law student at Wayne State
University. An oneg Shabat

ices will be held in the Beth
Shalom chapel. Kinnus

lowed by discussion groups.

time for a Shabat walk.

sity will tell stories and
teach some songs at a
kumsitz. Minha will fol-
low at 5 p.m. and a Dvar
Torah will be given by

terwards, Maariv and
Havdala will be held.
At 9 p.m. the group will
reconvene at Cong. Beth
Shalom for a masquerade
ball. Everyone is required to
wear a costume for admit-

low.

meet at 9:30 a.m. at Beth
Shalom for Shaharit,
brunch and slides. The
peace circle will follow at
about noon.

Ties With College
Youth Sought

Teacher Center on Wheels
at United Hebrew Schools

The youth commission of
Cong. Beth Achim is seek-
ing children of members
who are away at college for
the purpose of maintaining
contact with them.

The youth commission
also is re-instituting the
custom of presenting each
Bar Mitzva with a per-
sonalized kipa, created by
Ms. Drapkin.
Girls who become Bat
Chayil will receive a gift of
zandlesticks. <

The United Hebrew
Schools, in cooperation with
the Jewish Educators
Council, will host the Kohl
Jewish Teachers Center on
Wheels Sunday-Tuesday.
The Kohl Jewish Teacher
Center will bring programs
and creative materials and
assist teachers in the area
in curriculum development
and material formation.
Betsy Katz, director of the
Kohl Jewish Teachers Cen-
ter in Wilmette, Ill., will
lead workshops daily dur-
ing her visit.
These workshops are
made possible by an

educators in residence
grant of the Jewish Com-
munity -Foundation of the
Jewish Welfare Federation,
in cooperation with the
UHS and JEC. Teachers in
the community are invited
to attend workshops on
"Methods and Materials in
Teaching Hebrew Lan-
guage," "Methods and
Materials for Teaching Bi-
ble" or "Methods and Mate-
rials for High School
Teachers."
The Kohl Center's mate-
rials will be on display in
the Louis and Esther
La Med 'Auditorium.
