The Best of Everything
PLACES
FEW
AROUND to get a real good
"old fashioned" sundae
nowadays . . . And would
you believe one of them is a
Chinese restaurant? . . .
Great Wall in the Drake-
shire Shopping Center on
Grand River near Drake
makes its own sauces, too
. . . chocolate, butter-
scotch, liqueur, etc. . . . Its
peanut butter sauce is con-
sidered one of the best any-
where . . . people travel
from everywhere for the
very fine Great Wall gour-
met and regular dishes . . .
and even farther for owner
Henry Lum's yum-yum
sundaes.
WASTED TALENT was
case with wonderful jazz
pianist Bess Bonnier and
guitarist Joe Lo Duca play-
ing at ground-breaking
ceremonies of Prudential
Town Center con-
dominiums on Evergreen
. . . The lavish presenta-
tion was held in the gardens
outside of The Movies at
Prudential Town Center
. . . Bess and Joe, one of the
top jazz duos in the city,
played in the center but
were downstairs where not
too many people could ap-
preciate them . . .
Too bad more didn't get to
hear Bess' masterful styl-
ings on the piano, backed by
Joe, as her fingers wove an
elegant pattern of music
with tunes like "I Love
You," "I Like The Looks of
You," "Just One of Those
Things," "Satin Doll,"
among a very entertaining
bevy of standards . . . Bess
and Joe are presently ap-
pearing at The Summit of
Hotel Plaza.
Prudential didn't miss
out on much . . . that is, ex-
cept one thing . . . Some-
body forgot to bring coffee.
ANN RAUSCH, former
Ms. Everything at John Laf-
frey's Vineyards, on
Franklin Rd. at 12 Mile and
Northwestern, is now
downstairs there at Coco's
. . . soon to be name-
changed to John Laffrey's
Steak Bar . . . She was
head gal upstairs at the
Vineyards for about 11/2
years . . . a big favorite
with both employees and
customers.
ENTERTAINMENT
BY Alex Kallao and his trio
has been extended through
Jan. 3, 1981 at Hotel
Pontchartrain's Top of the
Pontch.
Kallao opened last April,
with his smooth piano work
setting the stage for re-
newed interest in slow danc-
ing at the skyline supper
club.
In addition to offering
Kallao's music and dining
Tuesday through Saturday,
Top of the Pontch now has a
Late Nite Menu of hors
d'oeuvres, light entrees and
desserts.
HAS SILA'S Pizzeria-
Restaurant on 12 Mile east
of Greenfield been sold?
NOW THERE'S bar-b-q
ribs and chicken (bbq or
roasted) among the varie-
ties at Angelo On The Plaza
. . . in the mall at Bloom-
field Plaza, Telegraph and
15 Mile Rd. . . . Also those
Davison Coney Islands the
Lampos family—Liz, Steve
and Eli — is noted for . . .
Angelo On The Plaza is
owned by the Davison
Coney originators and
operators.
THE DELI opening in
October at Muirwood
Square, Grand River
and Drake, is a three-cousin
affair . . . Owners Sandy
Greenberg and Mike Onof-
rey will run the operation
. . . and Cary Greenberg is
handling all interior design
work like the wall graphics
and hanging banners with
graphics of food on them.
The Deli will be a
cafeteria-style restaurant
with tables and booths seat-
ing about 100 . . . plus a
full-line carry-out setup
. . . from sandwiches to
trays.
JUST ABOUT every-
body's favorite host, Bob
Laiken, manager at
Archibald's on Woodward.
EDDIE JAYE and his
Carlton Crow puppet have
been on tour since June 15
. . . as warm-up opening
act for The Lettermen, Al
Hirt, Susan Anton, Larry
Gatlin ,and others . . .
Eddie will be comic and
emcee for the private and
prestigious Country Music
Annual Banquet show, Oct.
11,in Nashville, Tenn.
UNTIL NOW, Detroiters
who wanted fresh, hothe-
made pasta had to make it
themselves . . . or know
somebody that made the
goodies . . . As far as
Yvonne Gill knows, the
counter at her Tweeny's
Cafe on Woodward in Bir-
mingham is the only place
in the city where it can be
purchased . . . Tweeny's is
selling it by the pound . . .
made in its own kitchen.
In the sauce department,
Yvonne has four . . .
There's pesto, made with
fresh basil, cheese, garlic,
pignoli and olive oil . . .
Tweeny's has its own in-
terpretation of Sauce Al-
