Detroit's first Jewish
religious services, con-
ducted in 1850, were held at
the home of Sara and Isaac
Cousins.
The Bet El Society was
founded in 1850.
Beth El, Detroit's first
congregation, originally or-
ndox, was established in

1851, is Michigan's oldest
Jewish cemetery.
Shaarey Zedek, formed in
1861, is Detroit's first Con-
servative Congregation.
Bnai Israel, Detroit's old-
est Orthodox Congregation,

Krolik Memorial and the
