Shenkman family for
Lubavitch is a natural
one. Lubavitch recently
launched a Shabat
candle-lighting cam-
paign — but for 25 years
Mrs. Shenkman has al-
ready been giving Shabat
candle-holders as gifts
for newlyweds, and
encouraging others to
light the Sabbath and fes-
tival candles.
They are prominent fig-
ures in the Detroit com-
munal scene as well as de-
voted friends of Chabad -
Lubavitch. Shenkman
served for 20 years as a
board member, officer and
president of the United He-
brew Schools.
During his chairmanship
of the transportation com-
mittee, the bus system was
