Chairman of the event, which is by invitation only, is Ivan Bloch and guest of honor will be Sen. Carl Le- vin. Special greetings to the occasion will be brought by Federal Judge Avern Cohn and by Rabbi Abraham Shemtov of Philadelphia, a member of President Car- ter's newly-formed Inter- governmental Advisory Council on Education. Among the guests are: Federal Judge Stewart A. Newblatt of Flint, Rep. Joseph Forbes, Majority Floor Leader of the Michi- gan House of Representa- tives and State Sen. Doug- las Ross. The affinity of the Shenkman family for Lubavitch is a natural one. Lubavitch recently launched a Shabat candle-lighting cam- paign — but for 25 years Mrs. Shenkman has al- ready been giving Shabat candle-holders as gifts for newlyweds, and encouraging others to light the Sabbath and fes- tival candles. They are prominent fig- ures in the Detroit com- munal scene as well as de- voted friends of Chabad - Lubavitch.
