The Best of Everything

PROBABLY THE
greatest change in any res-
taurant almost anywhere is
that of Deli Unique (for-
merly Northgate) at Green-
field and 10 1/2 Mile . . . It's
an entirely all-neW
ballgame . . . and clean as a
whistle now.
Big reason is the new
ownership . . . youthful,
ambitious, so-eager-to-
please Matt Prentice, whose
80-hours-a-week of creativ-
ity is beginning to pay off.
It's now a gourmet delica-
tessen,if there is such a
thing . . . and Matt's Culi-
nary Institute of New York,
Fox & Hounds, Belanger
House, etc. expertise shows
some very fine colors.
He's open seven-
days-a‘-week ... and
people are beginning to
rediscover the locale they
once stayed away from.
Take Sunday brunch, 10
to 2 p.m., for instance .. .
You just can't imagine such
an array in the 72-seater
(all booths) eatery that
oozes of cleanliness with its
beautiful blue decor and soft
background music.
Look what ,people get for
$5.25 . . . all they can eat . . .
mostly standard items but a
lot of it . . . and some dishes
you won't see anywhere .. .
Lox, scrambled eggs, hash
browns, bacon, sausage, sa-
ble, chubs, Champagne
Chicken, Chicken LiVers
Portugal-, blintzes, pan-
cakes, French toast, kaiser
rolls, bagels, onion rolls,
quiche, fresh fruit . . . and
assorted pastries made at
Deli Unique.
Our waitress, Pattie De-
Grow, brought us coffee
with a smile and efficient
pleasantness.
The Sunday Brunch at
Deli Unique is quite a
meal . . . everything so
fresh ... And so very well
worth much more than
the $5.25 price . . . (or
Matt will only charge you
for what you want from
the brunch table).
Deli Unique is just that
. . . a unique delicatessen
. . . Besides the five-ounce
corned beef sandwiches .. .
what other delicatessen
serves Tournedos with
Bordelaise sauce, Cham-
pagne Chicken, Filet of Sole
Marguery, Poached Chic-
ken Mernier, Veal Oscar,
Veal and Crab Champagne,
London Broil . . . along with
its cabbage flanken, stuffed
breast 'of chicken and stuf-
fed breast of veal.
It even has a couple of
dishes flamed at your booth
. . . Roast Duck with cherry
sauce and Veal Unique,
sauteed with pears.
To top it all off, the high-
est anyone can pay for a
meal at Deli Unique is $6.95
. . . And this even includes
relish dish, soup or salad,
vegetable and double-baked
potato . . . The soup can
even be kreplach or matzo
ball — no extra charge.
The bread is crisply dou-
ble baked .. , on which the
large deli sandwiches are
made.
Matt has the creativity

... He has turned a so-so
at best operation into one
of intriguing delight ...
and a delicatessen with
dishes that can give even
fine French restaurants a
run for their money ... at
less than half the cost.
It's not open- for breakfast
. . . hours are 11 to 10 Mon-
day through Thursday, 11
to 12 Friday and Saturday
and 10 to 9 Sunday.
Deli Unique is something
different . . . Well worth
more than one visit . . . It is
the result of an energetic
young man who believes in
giving the best there is in
dining cuisine without the
customary ripoff on which
many French restaurants
thrive.
Matt's carry-out depart-
ment, with gefilte fish, etc.,
is impeccably clean as is the
entire restaurant . . . I can't
emphasize enough the
newly discovered cleanli-
ness of this now fine eatery
. . . He has turned things
completely around . . . and
is the kind of young man
whose aim is to not ever let
it revert back as before.
When you talk of
people who deserve a
chance, you're looking
straight at Matt Prentice
... This young man and
his 80 hours of toil is bent
on customer satisfaction
... whatever the price ...
and people who were
disbelievers at first have
become steady custom-
ers.
Matt's got the ball . . . and
he's running for a fast
touchdown in the restau-
rant business . . . There
should be more like him.
A FAN OF THE Lemon
Peel on Woodward just
south of 15 Mile has never
been to the restaurant .. .
She is Leah Lawrence, wife
of Gunther Lawrence, na-
tional public relations di-
