Chanan Yarden
JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Chanan Yarden, a lifelong
Jewish National Fund ac-
tivist, died recent recently.
He was 85.
Mr. Yarden was the man
who convinced Albert Eins-
tein to appear before the
Jews of Philadelphia in
1936 to speak about the im-
portance of land purchase in
Palestine. Einstein's ap-
pearance then opened new
horizons in fund raising for
the JNF.
Mr. Yarden devoted his
life to fundraising in the
U ', and for development
r eclamation of land in
Israel by the JNF. He imig-
rated to Israel in 1952, and
became a member of the
JNF's executive, in which
he served until his retire-
ment in'1960.

July 15 at age 69.
