JERUSALEM (JTA) —
The liberation of Jerusalem
in 1967 was hailed by Pre-
mier Menahem Begin as
"one of the greatest days of
victory in the annals of the
ancient Jewish people"
when "we returned to the
source." In a special mes-
sage released on the eve of
Jerusalem Day (Wednes-
day) which marks the 13th
anniversary of the reunifi-
cation of the city, Begin de-
clared:
"This year we celebrate
the Bar Mitzva of the libera-
tion and reunification of
Jerusalem, the capital of Is-
rael for three millenia and
for all generations to come.
It is the most sacred Bar
Mitzva in the lives of our
people, both in the land of
Israel and in the Diaspors.

Trifa Case Still
Pending Here;
Romanian Govt.
Seeks Witnesses

The U.S. Department of
Justice is waiting for the
government of Romania to
provide witnesses before the
U.S. immigration case
against Romanian Ar-
chbishop Valerian Trifa of
Grass Lake, Mich., can pro-
ceed, according to a letter to
The Jewish News from U.S.
trial attorney Eugene
Thirolf.
Trifa is accused of incit-
ing an Iron Guard pogroth
against the Je'ws of
Bucharest in 1941. The gov-
ernment alleges that
Bishop Trifa concealed his
Iron Guard ties when he
entered the U.S. in the early
1950s and when he was
granted U.S. citizenship.
Trifa was indicted by the
government in May 1975.
The case has been pending
for five years.
