WISHES ALL ITS
CUSTOMERS AND FRIENDS
A VERY HAPPY
LISTENING
POST
IF ANYBODY wanted a
lawyer or-judge recently,
they should have been
among the 100 or so people
at Stephen Cooper's recent
party . . . He's in the run-
ning for Southfield District
Court judge.
The shindig was like a
family affair . . . Aunt Rose
Lieberman made the
famous family chopped liver
. . . mother Mollie Cooper
brought a coffee cake . .
sister Madeline Harris
(Jerry) made the meat balls
. . . sister Phyllis Swartz
made the hot dogs and mus-
tard sauce . . . cousin Bar-
bara Parker Ratner (Nor-
man) made the hot cheese
dip with Doritos .. .
Sister-in-law Stephanie
Zack (Jimmy) made the
vegetable dip . . . sister
Marge Robbins (Jerry),
with Weight Watchers since
a couple of months after
Florine Mark got the local
franchise, made the tuna
tarts and stuffed mush-
rooms . . . plus taking the
pictures . . . with a Weight
Watchers camera (same size
as others).
Among the barristers,
Irving August re-
minisced with wife Sally
about the days years ago
when he delivered
bar-b-q ribs for Buddy's
on 12th and Clairmount
. . . Mother Birdie August
also worked there .
Michael Weiss wearing a
tie so red someone asked
why his tongue was stick-
ing out . .
Lou Barden began wear-
bow ties in 1959 when he got
tired of tying the long ones
. . . He's worn them ever
since . . . snap clip and
they're on in split seconds.
WHILE IN FLORIDA
recuperating from a kidney
stone operation at Sinai
Hospital, Rita Lipsky and
hubby Irving attended wed-
ding of Marcie Dembs,
daughter of localites Ann
and Nelson Dembs, to Steve
Bell, at Emerald Hills
Country Club . . . It was
attended by many De-
troiters . . . Dr. Don and
Norma Golden, Jack
Freedlander among others.
When they returned, a
surprise party was given by
daughter Rhoda for hus-
band Jim in their new
Southfield home . . . Turned
out to be a double celebra-
tion since it was also Rita's
birthday.
Former Detroiters Mar-
lene and Bob Balan, came in
from San Jose, Calif. for the
surprise . . . party . . . She is
Rita and Irving's daughter.
Among the guests, Rita's
longtime friend Jerry
Glassman was still talking
about his not being able to
change a flat tire while in
Florida with wife Debbie.
ERNEST DRUCKER,
owner of Executive Custom
Shirtmakers on Woodward
in Birmingham and a David
Niven look-alike, recently
returned from the Doral
Country Club in Miami
where he conducted a fash-
ion seminar for some big
corporation executives ..
While having breakfast in
the coffee shop, he was sur-
rounded by the waitresses
asking for his autograph .. .
Not wanting to disappoint
them, he willingly signed
autographs .. .
When lounging at pool-
side, Ernie's wife Marietta
was approached by a good-
looking gal wanting to play
tennis with "Mr. Niven."
CONGRATS - ... to
Naomi and Ron Lippa . . . on
their 25th anniversary.
DR. LLOYD SNIDER,
son of Oak Parkers Marge
and Reub Snider, is looking
forward to seeing eye to eye
with Harriet Pelton, daugh-
ter of Southfielders Esther
and Abe Pelton . . . Lloyd
recently graduated from the
New England College of Op-
-tometry, where he also be-
came member of the Beta
Sigma Kappa honor frater-
nity .. .
Harriet graduates June of
next year from the Illinois
College of Optometry .. .
They will be married Dec.
21 of this year . . . She'll
finish school . . . he'll work
in the Illinois region . . . and
they'll then return to the
local area . . . to look into
each other's eyes as man
and wife.
THINGS I NEVER
knew until talking to Roy
Calley • at Charter House
Barbers on Nine Mile Rd .. .
a very learned gent who
speaks seven languages .. .
and knows more about wor-
dage than the hair on an
Australian bushman's head
. . . Like synagogue being a
Greek word . . . or simple-
minded at one time being a
compliment.
WONDER WHY THE
Southfield school system
hasn't acknowledged in
some way two of their resi-
dential students winning
first and second prize in the
Shrine Circus - Poster Con-
test?
They are the students of
Davya Cohen (Stanley)
daughter of Aaron and
Tonya Slootsky . . . art
teacher at Thompson School
. . . Jeanne Garmo took first
prize and Scott Mittleman
was second . . .- in the
seventh and eighth grade
competitions . . . Last year,
another of her students, Jay
Bressler, won first prize.
AUDREY PEARL HAS
come a long way . . . She was
the first woman to become a
certified financial planner
in Michigan . . . after be-
ginning her financial career
in 1968 with Investors Di-
versified Services . . . and
entering private practice in
1973 . . .
Now she is one of Michi-
gan's leading CFPs . . . and
will hold a one-day financial
planning seminar, April 19,
10 to 4, at Michigan Inn.
