The Best of Everything 1
(Continued from Page 27)
Sydney's ... and helps
train the waitresses
along with assistant
managers Cindy Green-
wood and Joan Semczak
... Joan is also the bar
manager ... and while I
was there, was even
washing dishes in the
kitchen because the dish
washer cut his hand.
My waitress, Marie
Christy, oozed of fine train-
ing ... so courteous, effi-
cient and pleasant.
Head chef is Mark Carter,
and Tim Enfield is sous chef
. both veritable whiz
bangs at whipping up some
of the best food around.
The kitchen at Sydney's is
closed during the week at 11
p.m. ... on Fridays and
Saturdays, it's open until 12
midnight, or until the last
person has been served.
Syd Harris is the perfect
host .. someone you know
has the mark of success
written all over him.
Sydney's at Top of Troy
Building is bringing him
home another winner!
THOSE ORANGES IN
crates you see when enter-
ing Maple House on South-
field and 10 Mile, are not for
sale . . . that is, as they are
... Every morning now,
fresh orange juice is
squeezed in front of the
waker-upper.
There's a big difference at
Southfield's Maple House
.. the windows are sparkl-
ing, the silverware is clean
again and there's service
with smiles.
Reason for all this is new
manager Fred Rieman, very
well trained and highly ex-
perienced member of owner
Bruce Cameron's crew ..
and hard-working assistant
manager Beverly Walsh ..
Cameron owns all the
Maple Houses, Meating
Place, Double Eagle and
Midtown Cafe restaurants.
There are even price
changes ... for the better
. .. to get people coming
back ... like breakfast for
$1.50 . .. and daily buffet
brunch from 11 with all the
soup a person wants (there's
more than one choice) and
sandwich for $1.99 . . .
Maple House on Southfield
and 10 Mile seats 240.
Saturday.
Now owned by Frank
Edwards and night man-
aged by Lou Vivio, you
wouldn't recognize the
former Silent Woman
"hangout" spot.
Fingers Saloon is a pleas-
ant, cozy place . . . nothing
at all like what used to be at
the same locale.
It's been there 23i years
... and not too many
people know what action
goes on ... especially
with Sterns at the piano
bar ... the complete re-
decoration is entirely
away from the old Silent
Woman barnlike look ...
and poeple can now
enjoy themselves in a
most relaxed atmos-
phere.
The employees are quite
different, too . . . much for
the better .. . like
mixologist Nancy Frumkin
(Paul), with a degree in
English from University of
Michiga.i, among the very
highly competent persons
working there.

that I left with a sour taste
