on arriving at Eddy's Tin Fu
Restaurant in Northville
was that it only took 15
minutes from Southfield
and 10 Mile Rd. ... Second
surprise was how good the
food was.
It's all there ... Manda-
rin, Szechuan, - Cantonese.
. and American ... in a
spot that seats 130 between
a very clean, gracious-
looking dining room with its
five Oriental chandeliers
. and a pleasantly laid-
out cocktail lounge where
food also may be served.
Eddy's Tin Fu on W.
Seven Mile Rd., about two
miles west of 1-275, is owned
by Jack and Shirley Sonen-
berg and Eddy and Winnie
Tze.
The story of Eddy and
Winnie is a beautiful one
. They came to America
seven years ago come
March 11 ... and only in
our country can an all-
American dream like
theirs come true.
Eddy and Winnie arrived
here from Hong Kong ...
and he worked on the
northwest as a chef before
meeting Jack ... They be-
came friends and business
partners ... Then Jack and
Shirley sponsored the citi-
zenship application of Eddy
and Winnie, who pridefully
took their oaths as United
States citizens . . . while
Jack and Shirley proudly
looked on.
Winnie is a wonderful
hostess and barmaid . . .
There is nothing in Oriental
food that Eddy cannot make
. He has been challenged
many times but never failed
to succeed ... Folks call
ahead and say they want
such and such dishes ... It's
all ready for them when
they arrive ... Things like
Peking Duck requires 12-
hours notice ... Eddy pre-
fers roast duck because of
the lower grease content.
Our dinner was the Tin
Fu Platter with five differ-
ent hors d'oeuvres arranged
around a small flaming
hibachi . . . Rumaki like I've
never seen prepared, the
chicken liver, water
chestnut and bacon pre-
pared inside a batter; Sumi,
ground shrimp and chicken;
Sauteed beef on a stick, egg
rolls and bar-b-q ribs.
For my entree it was a
dish I hadn't had before
. . .Hoi Sen chicken . . .
chicken fried with Hoi-
Sen sauce and peapods,
peanuts, water chestnuts
and bamboo sprouts.
Where does the Tin Fu
come from you ask? .. It is a
term that originated in
China's Shansi Province
during the Chou Dynasty
and scientists have dis-
covered primitive writings
on ancient bones that con-
vey these words ... Modern
translation indicates that
"Fu" means luck ... "Tin"
has no English .eq_uivalent
but denotes a countless or
infinite amount.
The exotic drinks at Ed-
dy's Tin En are all there .. .
pirigcoladas, seorpions, etc:

. and Scotch or whiskey
drinkers have their choices
too.
There's a special dish
Eddy makes that isn't on
the menu ... In fact, it's a
conglomeration made up
into one delicious dish that
Jack Sonenberg always has
... Because of this, it'll
probably ■ be called "Jack's
No-Name Special" by others
who it.
Eddy's Tin Fu is not just
another Chinese restaurant
. It can be readily said
that the cooking has class.
SOME-
IMAGINE
BODY is pretty embarras-
sed at the new T.G.I. Friday
on Evergreen . . . Their book
matches say "Detroit,
Michigan" . . and it is
across the street from city
hall in Southfield!

TINA TURNER, whose
"Proud Mary" hit is still
remembered, opens this
Monday evening at db's
Club of Hyatt Regency in
Dearborn . . . One of the
hardest workers in show
business, Tina's showtimes
will be different from reg-
ular . . . Monday through
Wednesday 8 and 10:30; and
Thursday through Satur-
day 9 and 11:30.
comedy started its trend in
the Detroit area . . . Comedy
clubs sprang up overnight
to supply folks with laughs
... And even though this
"new concept" was thought
of as unique entertainment
the Raven Gallery on
Greenfield and 12 Mile has
been offering comedy and
folk entertainment together
