`Israel Observed' by Malka
Is Impressive Guide Book

Victor Malka, a French author, has created a most impressive
guide book to Israel.
"Israel Observed" (Oxford University Press) is his very fascinat-
ing portrayal of the country, fully illustrated with black and white
and color photographs of Israel's most impressive places.
Translated from the French by Jean Joss, this volume, was
deisgned by Erwin Spatz.
Commencing with Tel Aviv and the North Coast, proceeding to
the Galilee, devoting to chapters to Jerusalem, taking the traveler to
Judea and Samaria, the Negev and the Red Sea and touring Sinai,
this emerges as a very comprehensive work.
Every sector of importance is covered and the photographs are
credited to a number of able photographers, French and Israeli.
The text accompanying the photographs and guiding the tourist
through Israel is a literary contribution to the story of Israel.
The author has appended to his work a history of Zionism and
therefore Israel's beginnings and the nation's progress.
Many of the areas described especially Sinai and environs, are
thrilling accounts of the ancient linked with the modern.
Victor Malka has added valuably to the growing list of books on
the shelf devoted to guides to Israel. "Israel Observed" is a volume
meriting highest commendations.

MIDDLE EAST STRATEGY

As means of sensationalizing the news, there
is a continuing speculation over differences of
views on the question of autonomy in the ter-
