Detroit Council
Screens Prayer

The Detroit City Council
has decided to review all in-
vocations in advance of
their presentation at the
opening of council meet-
ings.
The policy is the result of
a heated exchange several
weeks ago between Coun-
cilman Kenneth Cockrell
and Rabbi David Rudnick.

Cockrell claimed that
Rabbi Rudnick's prayer had
political overtones because
the rabbi called for the secu-
rity of Israel in his prayer.
