Tale of Golem
,7173
Hanuka is inspiring the
publication of a series of
books for children, Holt,
Rinehart and Winston hav-
ing made it one of its proj-
ects.
The newest is a tale by a
revival of an old theme by
Peter Ruggill.
In "The Return of the
Golem," the author com-
bines a Hanuka celebration
in a family environment
and the children's imagina-
tive vision of a rabbi invok-
\-i. the power of the Golem
/prevent an anti-Semitic
massacre.
After a traditional eve-
ning of fun, the youth
dream up a tale of Rabbi
Yosef molding a Golem
out of clay. The danger to
Jews is averted by the
Golem and then he be-
comes a menace to his
environment. Rabbi
Yosef reappears to re-
store the Golem to clay.
When the mother ques-
tions the children's imagi-
nation, there is a return to
Hanuka jollity.
Kennedy Raps
Carter on PLO

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
Sen. Edward M. Kennedy
(D-Mass.) believes that the
Carter Administration's
position with respect to the
Palestine Liberation
Organization is a cause of
"concern among Israelis."
He also said, on a televi-
- sion interview, that no con-
ditions can be "superim-
posed" on Egypt and Israel
in their negotiations.
Kennedy said that "the
negotiations have to con-
tinue between Egypt and Is-
rael" and expressed "hope
that the process will con-
tinue" and that "other coun-
tries of the Middle East will
join."
He said "I do think there
is concern among Israelis
about the Administration's
posture and position with
regard to the PLO" and re-
ferred to "the ambivalence
of the Administration's
position as indicated by the
informal contacts in Vie-
nna, by Mr. (Andrew)
Young's conversations and
by Mr. (Zbigniew)
Brzezinski's meeting with
(Yasir) Arafat in Algeria.
This is a matter I am sure, of
concern to the Israelis,
about what the U.S. posi-
tion is," Kennedy said.
