THERE IS A SADNESS
in the Nancy Gurwin dinner
theater production of
"Funny Girl" starring
Nancy at Paradiso Cafe on
Woodward . . . but it comes
after the final curtain .. .
Untold amounts of people
are seeing this magnificent
show and sorry to see it end.
Without a doubt one of
the most talented and ver-
satile persons in this area
. . . and perhaps in many
others also . . . Nancy is
absolutely excellent in the
Fanny Brice role . . . and
surrounded-by a wonderful,
hard-working cast who help
her make this musical com-
edy a true sensation of the
year.
This is "Funny Girl" at its
best . . . from musical direc-
tor Martin Mandelbaum's
opening overture to the
numerous, well-deserved
curtain calls.
Lots of comedy and
pathos ... so much of
Jule Styne's great music
... very fine acting, sing-
ing and dancing ...
highly entertaining
production numbers ...
and fast change of pace
without losing too much
momentum.
Even the clever way of
changing scenery is not un-
noticed . . . or the well-
regimented and diversified
buffet dinner enjoyed by a
house with every seat filled.
But the big story is Nancy
herself . . . What a fantastic
talent! . . . Nancy again does
an exceptional job, which
seems to be the only way she
can perform.
As Fanny Brice looking
back on yesteryears before
she gained international
note . her personal and
stage experiences . . . and
becoming a Ziegfield Follies
star, Nancy is marvelous
. . . singing songs like
r Don't Rain On My Parade,"
"People," and "My Man"

among others . . . acting
with an uncanny ability to
change moods at the mere
flip . . . She, has the perfect
musical voice . . . and there
is so much feeling in all her
stage endeavors.
There is no end to the
abilities in "Funny Girl"
at Paradiso ... from pro-
ducer Donna Zatkin
(Nancy is executive pro-
ducer) to director Edgar
A. Guest III to
choreographer-actor
Dennis East to a devoted
cast of almost 20 ... plus
off-the-scenes people like
public relations gal Do-
lores Shevlin among
others.
Paradiso Cafe Dinner
Theater seats about 115
people for each Friday and
Saturday night showing.
"Funny Girl" has only
been there since September
and is already being heavily
booked- . . . Organizations
take note that this Nancy
Gurwin production on a
Friday night or Sunday
brunch could be a mighty
fine fund-raiser.
I talked about "Funny
Girl" with Nancy Gurwin
coming to Paradiso . . . and
finally got to see it . . . Like
just about everyone else, I
too was unhappy at the end,
- . . . sorry to see the final cur-
tain . . . But you know some-
thing? . . . This is one dinner
theater, presentation I'm
going to see over again!

WONDER
