Autonomy Talks Shift to London
LONDON (JTA) — The
next round of talks on
Palestinian autonomy will
be held in London next week

and the United States,
whose representatives have
previously discussed this
subject alternatively in
Egypt and Israel.

The official reason given
by the Americans and the
Egyptians is that Egyptian
Premier Mustafa Khalil
will be in Europe. Observers
believe, however, that the
talks may have been shifted
to London in a deliberate ef-
fort to upgrade their impor-
tance in the face of wide-
spread attacks on Egypt's
"sell-out" of the Palestinian
cause.

NEW YORK — Agudath
Israel of America has
criticized Conservative
leaders for "seeking to chal-
lenge the authority of Torah
scholars to rule on Hatakha
(Jewish law) and introduc-
ing the false issue of 'divi-
siveness' in a purely
religious-legal matter."
Conservative leaders
were upset by a ruling pub-
lished by Jerusalem's chief
rabbis, Bezalel Zolti and
Sholom Mashash, that serv-
ices held in a Conservative
synagogue in Israel, and the
blowing of a "shofar" in a
Conservative synagogue on
Rosh Hashana. do not con-
stitute the valid perform-
ance of mitzvot according to
Halakha.
