Pontch . . . Many say he is
the most recorded jazz
pianist in the world . . . and
Guarnieri has composed
some 3,500 selections.
In both engagements,
he'll be accompanied by
drummer J. C. Heard, with
Major Holley on bass.
Percy Gabriel's New Or-
leans Dixieland Jazz Band
takes over the bandstand
Oct. 1 . . . Percy and his
brother Manny, Dixieland
musicians since their early
teens, are part of a family
steeped in the tradition and
history of jazz in the deep
South.
VERY STRANGE . . .
how so few delicatessen res-
taurants, who should know,
can't make eggs and onions
properly.

PIPER'S ALLEY of
Troy, in the Lawyer's Title
Bldg. in Sheffield Office
Plaza on Big Beaver, has
gone jazz . . . Monday eve-

EACH TIME seems like
a new experience at Ex-
calibur, Northwestern and
12 Mile . . . Son Scott was
in town from college and
now calls it his new dis-
covery . . . We had delici-
ous almond-chicken-
eggdrop soup . . . and dis-
hes like Pat's Special (ribs
and lamb chops), prime rib
and scrod.
It was the 19th birthday
of our fine busboy, Ulysses
Berry, and time for a toast
to one of the best around.
Our waitress, Shaughn
Tracy, was very good . . .
smiling, personable and ef-
ficient.
Excalibur, was opened
by Pat Archer on Feb. 22,
1978 and has been a great
success . . . No small
part of ,that success goes
to Nick Sorice, his man-
ager since the end of
June 1978 ... Nick's way
with people is a fine pub-
lic relations asset ... and
his knowledge of the res-
taurant game is high
quality.
