LISTENING
POST

THEY SAID SHE
couldn't do it . . . but folks
didn't reckon with the tre-
mendous courage of Reva
Lederman . . . Five years
ago, Reva had a severe
stroke and was told by
e veryone not to. take a trip
(,/ v herself . . . that she
Juldn't do it alone . . . Tel-
ling Reva this was like in-
forming Muhammed Ali he
couldn't fight . . . She went
to Toronto alone recently for
a weekend . . . left her cane
in the room and went sight-
seeing and shopping in di-
rect defiance of what friends
said . . . The train's con-
ductor wanted to help her
up the steps but Reva said
no, put down her cane and
got on by herself . . . plus
even carrying her own lug-
gage.
Reva walks unsteadily
with a limp, but is a real
strong gal who will not
allow the affliction to get
her down . . . Next goal for
Reva this coming year will
be a trip to Europe . . . all
by herself.
OAK PARK CIVIC
r Chorus that meets Monday
nights at Oak Park High, is
looking for new members
. . . Folks who enjoy sing-
ing and interested in joining
the chorus, can call Marion
Bates, 968-1074, or Pearl
Kaplan, 543-5608. ..
NATHAN WOLOK is in
the record books . . . He's
been re-elected for the 14th
term as president of
Radomer Aid Society . . .
Vice presidents Rita Ager
and Helen Greenberg also
hold Radomer records . .
being elected to their offices
for a seventh term.
MORRIE AND BE-
RTHA Yaras have been
away from Detroit about 22
years, but nothing could
keep them from coming
here after Toby Laker's re-
cent passing away . . . and
remaining the entire shiva
period.
Morrie and Jimmy
Laker's friendship goes
back before and during
Toby and Jimmy's marriage
44 years ago . . . Nothing or
nobody could keep Morrie
away . . . even if he and wife
Bertha now live in Califor-
nia . . . and Morrie has sur-
- vived four heart attacks.
WHAT GOOD IS a
turning-right-on-red law
for motorists when com-
munities have so many No
Turn On Red" signs? . . .
Obviously, state laws like
this don't mean too much.
TOPS (Take Off Pounds
Sensibly) which does such
an outstanding job of help-
ing men lose weight, will
have motivational spe-
cialist Jim Murray speak-
ing on weight control, Oct.
17 . . . 8 p.m., at the old
meeting place, Livernois
and Nine Mile . . . No
charge.
STEVEN FELDMAN is
the new Michigan chess
champion in the master

class for 1979 . . . Games
were held over Labor Day in
Wayne, Mich., with Steve
being declared champ
among 250 contestants . . .
Previously, Steven had held
the junior championship for
seven years . . . He is 25
years old and has a master's
degree in microbiology from
the University of Michigan.
MAIL DEPT. . . . "A
fun evening was spent at
Bagelsteins for the. first
`Dallas Michigan Reunion.'
There were over 85 people
in attendance.
"Thanks to Larry and
Susan Goldstein for doing
such a fantastic catering
job. Dallasites really missed
a northern treat. The cli-
max of the evening was the
desert — Haagen-Dazs ice
cream topped with Detroit's
own Sanders hot fudge
thanks to Dr. Edward
Wiener and Dr. Neal
Saretsky.
"Consensus taken says
Michiganders would like to
get together again. We will
try for a Hanuka party.
"People came from Ar-
lington, Carrollton, Fort
Worth and Plano.
"Thanks to Reva Kurtis
and Sondra Goodman for
all their help. Also to the
husbands, Jerry Kurtis,
Ed Goodman and Leo
Schoenfeld: –
"Thanks to your item in
The Jewish News we had a
lot of people (.parents,
friends, relatives) contact
people here in Texas. I
would say we had at least a
dozen calls or better from
people who read your col-
umn. Even received a letter
from a doctor in Florida who
is moving here in one year
and wants to become a part
of this club."
—Fay Schoenfeld
LOOKING BACK On
Columns Of Yesteryears .. .
JUNE 17, 1960 . . .
"Dave Dombey, local photo-
grapher, got that 'old feel-
ing' when booked by Mrs:-
Henry Margolis to photo-
graph the wedding of her
daughter Judy to Barry
Maranoff of New York . . .
Whatever thoughts Dave
had about being a relatively
young camera clicker flew
out the window when Mrs.
Margolis showed him a pic-
ture he had taken of the
bride as an infant 20 years
ago."
CONGRATS TO . . .
Rose and Leo Hack on their
40th anniversary.

PRIME RIB.

September is the month. And prime rib is the special event. On Friday and Saturday

That's a complete prime rib dinner we're talking about. A nice, thick cut of tender
prime rib of beef au jus, along with soup, salad, fresh rolls and butter,a steaming baked
potato ands dessert. All for just $7.95. That's what makes it so special.
John Williams' piano arrangements are worth the price alone.
