TEL AVIV (MDA) —"Call of the
heart," is a fitting term for what
Magen David Adorn sees as a most
challenging project for the 1980's:
to have a fully equipped mobile
- cardiac rescue ambulance in every
community in Israel.
The conversion of the MDA
ambulance fleet to vastly improved
emergency medical care would
mean that a cardiac patient would
receive immediate treatment in the
fully-equipped ambulance itself
without experiencing hitherto
long, and sometimes fatal delays
before receiving initial treatment
in the hospital.
According to the MDA program,
all of Israel's ambulances in the
next decade will contain an EKG
machine, a resuscitator for heart
massage, a defibrilator and other
vital-signs equipment. At the same
time, the patient's electrocar-
diograph patterns can be beamed to
the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit at
a hospital for on-the-spot telemet-
ric consultation and interpretation
by a cardiac specialist.
The cardiac rescue ambulance
fleet is not limited to rescuing
heart-attack patients, but is also
for victims suffering from severe
wounds, shock, hemmorhage, suf-
focation and other forms of cardiac
respiratory failure. -
American Red Magen David for
Israel (ARMDI) seeks increased
financial aid to supply mobile car-
diac rescue ambulances and life
support equipment.
NEW MDA BLOOD CENTER:
BEACON OF HOPE
FOR MIDDLE EAST
TEL HASHOMER (MDA) —
"The most advanced blood center in
the Middle East."
Those are the words of experts who
have seen the blueprints of the new
life-saving project of Magen David
Adorn in Israel which will be built
on a three-and-a-half acre site here
close to airport facilities and to the
network of highways that connect
Tel Aviv with Jerusalem, Haifa
and other major cities.
Plans for the $10 million blood
center call for three floor levels
above ground and two underground
levels which will include: blood
bank and fractionation plant; a
large freezing storage space for
blood and blood products; a mod-
ern blood donor care center;
hematology and protein chemistry
laboratories; quality control
facilities; lecture halls and ad-
ministrative offices.
The blood products from this -
center will supply all hospitals
Forces.
ARMDI National President
Joseph Handleman declared that
this would be an international pro-
ject sponsored by all of MDA's
friends throughout the world and
that ARMDI itself would raise $5.5
million.
ARMDI's
CONVENTION '80
In Jerusalem
NEW YORK (ARMDI) — Meet-
ings with top Israeli government
leaders and medical personnel;
gala dinners and receptions; visits
to the wide network of MDA
emergency clinics and-stations; ex-
tensive and stimulating sightse-
eing throughout the Jewish state,
as well as an optional four-day tour
of Egypt; are all exciting highlights
of American Red Magen David for
Israel's 1st National Convention,
June 22 to July 6, 1980, which will
celebrate ARMDI's 40th anniver-
sary year.
Issuing the call to attend the
Convention was Hon. Emanuel
Celler, chairman of the National
Board of Directors of ARMDI, who
noted that the history-making
event would open at the Hilton
Hotel in Jerusalem;
Delegates, family and friends are
invited to attend this National
Convention on the soil of Eretz Is-
rael itself to see with their own eyes
the remarkable achievements of
the Jewish state and of MDA with
its vast fleet of ambulances, mobile
cardiac units, blood centers and
medical emergency clinics. A fea-
ture of the gathering will be meet-
ing MDA friends from throughout
the world.

PARAMEDICS
COME TO ISRAEL
TEL AVIV (MDA) Magen David
Adorn — Israel's Red Cross service
— at all times seeks to upgrade the
level of medical care provided by its
facilities and personnel. Thus it has
embarked upon an ambitious pro-
ject to train a cadre ofhighly skilled
men and women to be paramedic's
aboard MDA mobile cardiac rescue
units.
For many committed and highly
capable drivers in MDA's nation-
wide network of ambulance ser-
vices, it will mean a chance to ac-
quire new and sophisticated skills
to save a life.
sion of Dr. Nancy Caroline, a U.S.
physician specializing in the field
of emergency medical care. She
emigrated to Israel last year to be-
come MDA's first medical director.
Through American Red Magen -
David for Israel, Dr. Natan and Ur-
sula Celnik, of Long Beach, N.Y.
have established a special scholar-
ship program to train paramedics.
ARMDI seeks additional funding
for this paramedic program.

Infant
Intensive Care
JERUSALEM (MDA) — Thanks
to an innovative pilot program in-
itiated by Magen David Adorn,
(MDA), premature and ill newborn
infants now have a far better
chance of survival. Infants encoun-
tering severe problems at birth are
rushed in specially equipped inten-
sive care MDA ambulances with
trained technicians who constantly
monitor the child's vital signs, to
the Hadassah Hospital which is
working with MDA on the prog-
ram. Because the ambulance acts
as an extension of the hospital's in-
tensive care unit, the struggle to
maintain the baby's life can now
begin in the MDA ambulance on
the way to the hospital.
