Brighton Congregation Names
Rabbi, Sets Bi-Weekly Services

Approximately 100 per-
sons attended Sabbath serv-
ices last Friday night in
Brighton at the first wor-
ship services conducted by
the new Cong. Solel.
The new congregation
was formed this month with
27 member families in the
Livingston County area.

Rabbi Joseph Gutmann,
professor of art and art his-
tory at Wayne State' Uni-
versity, will serve as the
congregation's spiritual
leader.
The congregation plans to
hold Sabbath services, fol-
lowed by an adult education
program, every other Fri-
day evening at St.. Paul's
Episcopal Church in
Brighton.
The congregation is
borrowing a Torah from
Temple Emanu-El in Oak
Park until their own To-
rah, purchased by four
families, arrives from the
London Synagogue.
Temple Beth Emeth in
Ann Arbor has loaned
the Brighton ,congrega-
tion a portable Holy Ark
and hosted Cong. Solel's
oneg Shabat following
Sabbath services last
week.
Solel has scheduled Rosh
Hashana services begin-
ning at 8 p.m. Sept. 21 and
10 a.m. Sept. 22. Yom Kip-
pur services will begin at 8
p.m. Sept. 30 and 10 a.m.
Oct. 1.
There is no charge for
attending High Holy Day
services but a donation is
requested.

Lubavitch Drive for Needy;
Additional Holiday Services

Chabad
The local
Lubavitch organization has
embarked on a campaign to
aid the needy during the
High Holiday season.
Proceeds from the drive
will provide needy Jewish
families with the following:
Rosh Hashana meals, food
for before and after the Yom
Kippur fast, the cost of
building a sukka, lulavim
and etrogim and meals for
Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret
and Simhat Torah.

Early
Deadline

The Jewish News will
have an early deadline
of noon Friday, Sept. 28,
for local news copy and
display advertising to
appear in the issue of
Oct. 5.
Also, the deadline for
the Oct. 12 issue will be
noon Monday, Oct. 8.
However, there will be
no mail delivery that
day and material should
be mailed early or hand
delivered to comply
with the deadline.
