Rabbi Elisha Prero has
been named associate rabbi
at Young Israel of South-
field. Rabbi Prero is the son
of Rabbi Samuel Prero, who
has served Young Israel
congregations in Detroit
and New York, and Mrs.
Prero.
The younger Rabbi Prero
attended Yeshivat Kerem
b`Yavne and Yeshivat Har
Etzion in Israel. Upon com-
pleting studies at the Rab-
binical College of Brisk in
Chicago, Rabbi Prero re-
ceived semiha from Rabbi
Aaron Soloveitchik.
He earned a BA degree
magna cum laude at Loyola
University and attends the
University of Michigan Law
School. He is a member of
the National Psychology
Honor Society.
Rabbi Prero was on the
staff of the Chicago
Jewish Post and Opinion
while in Chicago. He was
a teacher and adviser in

for Temple; Schmier Named

announced that cornerstone
laying ceremonies for the
congregation's new build-
ing will take place 1:30 p.m.
Sept. 16.
The dedicatory program
will take place at Temple Is-
rael's new building site on
Walnut Lake and Drake
Roads, West Bloomfield.
Schmier said the new
facilities were scheduled to
open for the High Holy Days
of 1980.
Meanwhile, the temple
will open a branch of its
Sunday religious school
at the Green Elementary
School, Walnut Lake and
Green Roads.
The congregation will
continue its use of Schoen-
hals School in Southfield for
Sunday and weekday He-
brew classes and also will
use Warner School in Far-
mington for Hebrew classes.
Re-elected to serve with
Schmier are: Stanley
Millman and Dr. Lowell J.
Ressler, vice presidents;
Shirley Fink, secretary; and
James L. Jonas, treasurer.
Named to three-year
terms on the board of trus-

Janet Pont Named Director
of Adat Shalom Nursery
Adat Shalom Synagogue
has named Janet Pont as di-
rector of its nursery school.
Mrs. Pont has taught
young children at Cong.
Shaarey Zedek for the last
23 years.
She began her career as a
day camp counselor. Sub-
sequently she held posts as
camp music director, nur-
sery school teacher, music
specialist, consecration
coordinator, special pro-
gram director, youth ad-
viser and Sabbath and High
Holiday services director.
She also has taught Hebrew
and secular courses at
numerous Detroit area
synagogues.
