Arab Attorney Is Upheld
in FBI Surveillance Case

Attorney Abdeen Jabara,
an active spokesman in De-
troit's Arab community for
Arab and Palestinian
causes, won a victory in
Federal District Court last
week in his lengthy lawsuit
against the Federal Bureau
of Investigation.
Judge Ralph M. Freeman
ruled that Jabara's rights
were violated when the Na-
tional Security Agency in-
tercepted Jabara's "foreign
communication" and turned
them over to the FBI. The
judge will rule at a later
date whether Jabara is
entitled to monetary dam-
ages.
Judge Freeman says
there has been no evidence
linking Jabara to any crime
and he added that surveil-
lance of Jabara could con-
tinue if it were conducted
through proper legal chan-
nels.
Jabara was co-counsel
for Sirhan Sirhan, con-
victed of assassinating
Sen. Robert F. Kennedy,
and Jabara was a foun-
der of the Association of
Arab-American Univer-
sity Graduates.
He has reportedly denied
membership in Arab ter-
