Lansing Community College
Gains Jewish Student Unit

For the first time in its 22
year history, Lansing
Community College has a
group to serve the needs of
its Jewish students, faculty,
staff and friends.

A Very Special
Stone

There's no time like
today to get your
precious gems
remounted in a
contemporary or
traditional custom
design, whether its a
stone handed down
from generation to
generation, or a new
one from our
selection. Times
change, but the
meaning behind that
very special stone
won't if you restore it
with Widenbaum's
artistic expertise.

The group is the Organ-
ization of Jewish Students
(O.J.S.), and is also called
the LCC Jewish Group.
The LCC Jewish Group was
formed to counteract prop-
aganda of the three Arab
student clubs at LCC who
set up–propaganda tables,
held demonstrations, domi-
nated the student news-
paper, and used a large por-
tion of the student govern-
ment funding.
The LCC Jewish Group
had to work for many
months to gain approval as
a recognized student club on
the campus. Wherever the
Jewish group meets on
campus, even to show a
movie, an officer of the cam-
pus Department of Public
Safety is always present be-
cause of potential Arab vio-
lence.
The group has held a
Purim celebration, and a
program on Yom Hashoa
(Holocaust Remembr-
ance Day).
The club plans to bring
speakers, films and litera-
ture tables to LCC in the
fall, and there will be a He-
brew language study group
during the summer and con-
tinuing throughout the
year.
