posed the emigration of
Soviet Jews to Israel be-
cause "Russia without Jews
would be terrible."
Yevtushenko, who wrote
the memorial "Babi Yar" in
1961, said the political cli-
mate for Jews in Russia was
"not good," but claimed that
anti-Semitism is not wide-
spread or strongly rooted.
