WSU Medical School to Cite
Former Detroiter Dr. Gold

Dr. Ernest M. Gold, a
former Detroiter of Sac-
ramento, Calif., will receive
the Wayne State University
School of Medicine's distin-
guished alumni service

award, during the school's
1979 medical alumni reu-
nion day May 9 at the
Michigan Inn.
Dr. Gold, a 1954 WSU
Medical .School graduate, is
being hOnored "for his ac-
complishments in the field
of medicine." While a medi-
cal student at WSU, he re-
ceived a number of honors,
including the school of
medicine's Theodore H.
McGraw Award and the
alumni association's
scholastic achievement
award. Now affiliated with
the Sacramento Medical
Center, Dr. Gold also is a
professor of internal
medicine at the University
of California School of
Medicine, Davis.
Dr. Gold is president of
the Sacramento Diabetes
Association and chair-
man of its medical advi-
sory board. His work has
been published in
numerous medical jour-

Join Assembly
Held in Cairo

LONDON (JTA) — The
World Union Of Jewish Stu-
dents (WUJS) participated
in a conference in Egypt
earlier this month, the first
Jewish organization to do so
since the signing of the
peace treaty between Israel
and Egypt, March 26, it was
reported by Irving Wallach.
WUJS secretary-general.
He said WUJS was re-
ceived officially by the
Egyptian and Tunisian or-
ganizers of the World Youth
Congress on Food and De-
velopment, which was spon-
sored by the semi-official
Cairo newspaper Al-
Abram, the United Nations
Environment Program and
the United Nations Food
and Agriculture Organiza-
tion.
The congress' only sour
note occurred when the Jor-
danian governmental dele-
gation withdrew after they
told the congress secretariat
that they would not partici-
pate because of the official
presence of a "Jewish organ-
ization."
However, Wallach, who
attended the Congress, said
that a friendly and informal
feeling was the rule.
