Yeshiva Students
Getting Medical
Orientation Class

NEW YORK — To meet
the growing medical con-
cerns for social, philosophi-
cal, legal and halakhic is-
sues confronting doctors,
pre-health science students
at Yeshiva College, Yeshiva
University's undergraduate
division for men, will be of-
fered a series of lectures on
ethical issues as an added
component of the college's
2 1/2-year-old hospital orien-
tation course.
The orientation brings
students to nearby Jewish
Memorial Hospital in
Washington Heights to ob-
serve doctors in various de-
partments, exposing them
to hospital life early in their
educational careers. Gener-
ally, students do not receive
such exposure until they are
in medical school.
Dr. Saul Wischnitzer,
associate dean for health
sciences,-said, "There's a
great deal of concern among
our students about the
human issues they will face
as doctors. Enrollment in
our hospital orientation
course doubled as soon as
this lecture component and
the topics to be covered were
announced."

French Socialists
Invite PLO Envoy

PARIS (JTA) — The
Frencl), Socialist Party has
invited the Palestine Liber-
ation Organization to send a
delegation with. observer
status to its general confer-
ence.
This is the first time that
the French Socialists, re-
futed to be Israel's staunch-
est friends in France, have
invited the PLO. Israel's
Labor Party traditionally
sends_ a high ranking dele-
gation to the conference.
Socialist sources say the
decision to invite the PLO
was taken by the party's
executive in the absence of
its First Secretary Francois
Mitterand. Certain
Socialist sources even claim
that the invitation was
launched "in order to em-
barrass" Mitterand who is
being contested as the
party's leader and
presidential candidate.
The PLO will be repre-
sented at the annual con-
ference due to take place
April 7-9 by its perma-
nent delegate in Paris;
Ibrahim Suss.
Mitterand has in the
meantime written
President Valery Giscard
d'Estaing asking him to
intervene on behalf of a
large number of Soviet
Jews.

New ,Competitor

TEL AVIV (ZINS) —
South Africa, the world's
major exporter of raw
diamonds, has begun com-
peting with Israel's
diamond polishing indus-
try. South African diamond
polishers are exempt from
the country's 10 percent ex-
port tax, making the South
African finished diamonds
cheaper than Israeli cut
stones.

A reaffirmation of religious ident:ty.
Of spiritual ties with a long, rich past.
And of the love that binds a family
together.
This year, as always, A&P extends
its wishes for a happy holiday. •
May you, ztnd all those close
to you, enjoy many more Passovers in
health, contentment and peace.
