MAKERS the country over

have come out with some
pretty odd-ball laws regard-
ing preparation, serving
and consumption of food,
there are, oddly enough,
sandwiches in among those
that fail to make sense a few
laws which would undoub-
tedly bring loud cheers from
disgruntled citizens if they
were adopted on a national
basis.
For instance, in Colorado
Springs, a waiter is subject
to a fine if he makes an in-
sulting remark -to a cus-
tomer . . . In Florida, there
is a law forbidding your
neighbor to hire away your
cook . . . hi Gary, Ind., it is
against the law to ride any
street car or attend any the-
ater within four hours after
eating garlic . . . There is a
law in Michigan which says
that no peddler may coat his
fruit with varnish to bring
out its beauty . . . and in
Waterloo, Neb., bless them,
barbers are forbidden to eat
onions between 7 a.m. and 7
p.m.

Eight booths from the
former Trio's Brown Bear
breaks up what before was a
wide-open area . . . and
more are being looked for to
be put around the fireplace
. . . Facilities are available
too for outside catering up to
500.
New Year's Eve was a
double celebration . . . also
Orion House's first anniver-
sary.
IN THE HANDS OF a
real pro like Myron Cohen,
the fine art of dialect has
survived . . . He is also one
of the very few experts who
have . . . Dialect king Cohen
likes to tell about the two
partners in the cloak and
suit business who were hav-
ing an argument . . . The
senior partner said, "you're
so crooked that the wool
you're pulling over my eyes
is 50 percent cotton." . . . Or
the,one about the two
Jewish women in Brooklyn
who were talking and one
said to the other, "If I live, ,
I'll see you Wednesday — if
not, Thursday."
YES, THERE IS a drink
called Double Trouble . . . %
brandy, V3 dry vermouth, 4
dashes grenadine and 1
dash angostura bitters .. .
Shake well with ice and st-
rain into glass.

REID

JERUSALEM — The
Orthodox Agudat Israel co-
alitifin is presenting legisla-
tion in the Knesset to re-
strict the sale of pork and
pork products in the same
areas of Israel °where pig
breeding has been prohi-
bited for 17 years. _
Pig breeding is permitted
basically in areas that are
Christian or mixed.
- The Likud coalition has
already enacted Aguda-
sponsored legislation on
army service and national
service for Orthodox girls.
Aguda is now pushing legis-
lation to limit abortions and
a spokesman said its next
campaign would be against
autopsies.

Detroit financiers A.

Fisher announced this week
that they are no longer in-
terested in purchasing the

Two weeks ago, Taubman
and Fisher denied a report
that they had made an offer

wasn't doing so well and
looked pretty sick of the
Whole affair . . . "Stop those,
punches!" shouted his man-
LAW- ager from his corner . The
fighter managed to open his
swollen lips enough to re-
!. ply, "You don't see any of
'em getting -past me, do
