TEL AVIV (ZINS) — The
newspaper Haaretz has
criticized the Zionist
movement for the small
aliya among persons emig-
rating from South Africa
and Iran.
Haaretz said that 6,000
Jews left South Africa in
1977, five percent of the
Jewish community there.
Only 1,600 went to Israel.
Of the 3,000 Jews who
have fled Iran only 50 have
registered as olim in Israel.
Some 800 others who have
arrived in Israel say they
are staying only temporar-
'ily.

200,000 Vietnamese look-
ing for a haven.
Meanwhile, the Austra-
lian Ambassador to Israel,
W.P.J. Handmer, took ex-
ception to reported remarks
by Israeli Cabinet ministers
that Australia was one of
the countries that should
"examine their consciences"
in light of Israel's decision
to admit 100 refugees.
Handmer said that Au-
stralia was in fact in the
forefront of international ef-
forts on behalf of the home--
less Vietnamese. He said
his country "will have taken
in more than 20,000 of them
by the middle of this year."
