An American-born
Lebanese, Miss Rashid
also visited Lebanon in
1974. She knew a number
of members of Beirut's
Jewish community, but
said most of the commu-
nity has fled the country
now.
"A Jewish employee of my
grandfather's advertising
agency is still in Lebanon
but not in Beirut. West Be-
irut where the Jewish com-
munity lived is _a no-Man's- -
land," she said.

ternational convocation of
Jewish War Veterans will
be held in Jerusalem, be-
ginning Feb. 11. Veterans
from throughout the world
will meet in a four-day con-
ference to discuss plans of
action -in combatting anti-
Semitism and terrorism
throughout the world and to
support the peace effort in
the Middle East.
Nathan M. Goldberg, of
Albany,.. N.Y., national
commander of the Jewish
War Veterans of the U.S.,
stated that the U.S. delega-
tion to this conference will—
number approXimately 500
members.

A series of membership
functions aied at recruit-
ing new members will be
undertaken by the Ameri-
can Jewish Congress, ac-
cording to Lillian Weisberg,
president.
Under the direction of
Ann Benderoff, member-
ship chairman, assisted by
Rose- Buchhalter, a series of
social gatherings will be
held at the homes of mem-
bers of the AJCongress so
that those interested in
"getting in on the action" on
issues of concern to the
Jewish community may
have the opportunity to
meet others who share their
concerns. Singles as well as
couples are invited.
