taurant, renamed The Raf-
ters, on the sixth floor .. .
Additional space has been
created in the restaurant
and cocktail lounge by mov-
ing the glass picture win-
dows outward some three
feet to the building's outside
wall . . . The expanded area
has increased the seating
capacity to 140.
The Rafters' name was
inspired by the heavy
timber ceiling beams and
wood trim which is appar-
ent throughout the room.
SITE OF THE former
Egg Castle is now a family
dining spot called South-
field House, 12 Mile just
east of Northwestern .. .
Same yellow and white
colors and orange shades .. .
clean atmosphere . . . Open
for breakfast, lunch and
dinner seven days a week.
PROBABLY ONE OF
THE best all-you-can-eat
smorgasbord deals is right
here on the northwest .. .
It's at the Carter House on
W. Eight Mile Rd., east of
Evergreen . . . $3.69 dinner
and $2.89 lunch includes
about eight or more entrees
plus potatoes, soup, vegeta-
bles . . . (everything but pie
and beverage) . . . The bev-
erage, incidentally, is all
you want, regardless of
what, even milk.
The new Carter House is
owned by fellows who are
here to stay . . . Jim Carter
and Don Corsetti . . . Noth-
ing is fried . . . everything
baked . . . with seating for
140 . . . and open 365.days of
the year.
DINING AREA of The
•Vineyards on Franklin and
Northwestern, will be taken
over by Al Green's On The
Hill, but will keep Vine-
yards name . . . The Vine-
yards Annex new name is
Benny's Disco . . . both are
owned by Ben Kasle.
BACK OF THE menu at
Pickle Barrel Deli in Ever-
green Plaza, 12 Mile and
Evergreen, reads: "From
Hastings to 12th Street,
then on to Linwood, Dexter,
Wyoming, Oak Park and
now beautiful Southfield,
the 'Detroit Delis' have be-
come an institution. Our
local delis are often pro-
claimed the best in the na-
tion because they offer such
fine food and atmosphere.
We at the PicklP
promise to maintain this
reputation and serve you
the very best food in attrac-
tive comfortable surround-
ings."
Our waitress, Sue LaG-
row, at Pickle Barrel, is one
of the top deli and catering
servers around . . . smiling,
pleasant and very efficient.
-LIFELINE IS a top-40
and disco dance group with
four-part vocal harmony .. .
at Hurley's in Northfield
Hilton Inn through Dec. 31
. .. Ci:ooks Rd. at 1-75 in
Troy.
TOWN CENTER Res-
taurant, owned by Greg and
Angie Karris, is quite unbe-
lievable at lunch time .. .
Seats 210, but still not
enough . . . People waiting
in the fast, fast-moving line

is an everyday occurence .. .
It's busy as the dickens from
11:30 to 3 . . . lots of hub-bub
activity and good food .. .
fine waitresses like Myra
Hoye, who believes heartily
in service with a smile, and
efficient Beverly Gray.
Saying Town Center
brings to mind a question
. . . why there is no Pruden-
tial name identity on the
building.
MAIL DEPT. . . . "My
husband and I thank the
new owners and employees .
of Benny's Delicatessen in
Oak Park for all of their
support and combined ef-
forts on our recent be-
reavement. They raised
$1,135 which we contrib-
uted to the Michigan
Cancer -Foundation to
further their research ef-
forts." — Clare Craig, a
former employee.
SAM McDONALD is not
the name of a man . . . and
very far from looking like
one either! . . . Rather, she's
a pretty young gal waitress
with a very beautiful smile
and winning personality at
Bonaventure Restaurant on
Big Beaver, next to Top of
Troy Bldg. . . . Her real
name is Susan, but nobody
knows her as that . . . What
does Sam's husband call
her? . . . "Honey," she says,
except when he is mad.
"Then he calls me Sam."
One of the best busboys
around is at Bonaventure
. . . Keith Walsh . . . an ex-
cellent young man who is
always at tables with fresh
coffee in a fresh cup . . . even
before people have a chance
to finish their present one,
which may have gotten a bit
cool if you're engaged in
conversation . . . In other
words, at Bonaventure,
when Keith is the busboy,
you don't drink anything
but very fresh coffee in a
clean cup at all times.
WHEN ORDERING
blintzes at other than a
Jewish delicatessen, make
sure to tell the waitress you
want them pan-fried, not
deep-fried . . . Then again,
